Brace yourself -- the moment you've been waiting all year for has finally arrived. Yes, rock star wannabes, the Guitar Hero Air Guitar Rocker is finally in major retailers. The Jada Toys' device, which was
showcased at CES, consists of a miniature guitar amplifier, a sensor-laden belt buckle, an assortment of pics and an Air Cartridge, which packs "ten signature guitar riffs" ranging in skill from one to five. Once you rock the wind out of the $29.99 base unit, you can look forward to "encore packs" -- which will include themed belt buckles and new Air Cartridges -- arriving later this summer for $14.99 each. Oddly enough, we think a "gnarly" is order here.

But does it go to 11?
Poozle @ May 6th 2008 9:49AM
No, this one only goes to 5, probably goes to 11 in an encore pack ;)
Dan Davis @ May 6th 2008 10:46AM
Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number, and make that a little louder?
aaserali @ May 7th 2008 8:05PM
Butttttt this one goes to 11.........................

Dear Guitar Hero:
I hate you for diluting your brand past the point of relevance.
Signed,
A Fan

I've got to agree with you on this one. It was a good idea, in the beginning. Then came the silly plastic guitars and the were tolerable, but this? They're milking it harder than any plasticky teat should ever be milked.
The milking must stop.

Thank Activision. They are the new EA.
Karl Hackswell @ May 6th 2008 10:22AM
Can it play Doom?
LiqwidZero @ May 6th 2008 10:27AM
No! It can't! Stop asking that stupid question!
teej @ May 6th 2008 3:52PM
boy, it sure can- while blending and hammering the final nail in HD-DVD's coffin!
El Taco @ May 6th 2008 5:39PM
well, if they made a cartridge for it, technically it COULD play 'Doom' by Southern Flame, but why would they do that?
Bob Dole @ May 7th 2008 7:57AM
If you can use your air imagination, then in your head, yes, it can play doom. But why not just play with yourself instead?
Derek @ May 6th 2008 7:31PM
"Will it blend?"
Douche.

Little late, been out for a few weeks now... I picked one up at target for one of the guys at work about 2 or 3 weeks ago.
Roger @ May 6th 2008 10:50AM
Longer than that: I work at Target were the thing has been on the shelf for months now. Since March I think.
Also: remember that Guitar Hero carabiner crap? We had it on the shelf the day after it was first featured in Engadget.
You guys need to get out more. Seriously.
Roger
Mike Weisert @ May 6th 2008 11:28AM
and by out, they mean go to Target more often.
J. Evans Turner @ May 6th 2008 2:19PM
I've seen it out for weeks too...possibly months. I first noticed it at Hastings, which isn't even a major national retailer.
Dan Davis @ May 6th 2008 10:48AM

I remember when I was a kid, a friend of mine had a plastic guitar that you could put cartridges in to play songs. You'd press a fret-button and part of the song would play, press another and the next part would play. It was kind of like the precursor to Guitar Hero.
ScooterDe @ May 6th 2008 5:09PM
sounds like more fun
Mike @ May 6th 2008 1:57PM
Can anyone say, "Too much Guitar Hero?".
ugg.tryptophan @ May 6th 2008 11:33PM
Too much Guitar Hero!
teej @ May 6th 2008 2:01PM
oh god, why would someone invent this... this would work perfect for the Bluetooth headset folks that always seem to be talking to themselves; they can now look twice as fuckign crazy.

My local Wal-Mart has had this for a few months now...
