Looks like those rumors about new Macs (specifically,
iMacs) on
the 7th were true -- we were just invited to an Apple "product presentation for Mac" at Apple Town Hall in Cupertino next week. The event gets started on the morning of Tuesday, August 7th, and while we weren't promised an appearance by El Jobso, Apple was, shockingly enough, very open and clear about the fact that this is going to be a press gathering for Mac products (and Mac products only -- so stash away those
iPhone hopes, fears, and rumors until next Wednesday).

juhu!!!!
Tim @ Jul 31st 2007 7:33PM
Can't wait to see what's next... I've been hoping to see a redesigned iMac for quite some time.
mac snooper @ Jul 31st 2007 10:37PM
All I will say is there WILL be new IMACS released on the 7th...
With the tax free holiday coming this weekend I went to a retailer and they are completely sold out of Imams and will not have any till after the holiday.
Sam @ Aug 1st 2007 5:42AM
When is Apple going to realise that most people do not want a computer with an integrated screen and start making a middle sized pc tower instead?
Another thing they should do is update the Mac Mini. I really like it but I will never buy one until they put a decent CPU (an entry level C2D would do) and a decent graphics card (Intel integrated graphics is shit!)
Nigel Tufnel @ Aug 1st 2007 9:34AM
Sam,
I think they'll realize that when they go back in time and unsell all of the iMacs they've sold since the original Bondi Blue. I think what you meant to say is that YOU don't like the all-in-ones.
Chris @ Jul 31st 2007 7:34PM
question, this applies to only the mac line of computers and not any of the ipods, right?
tande @ Jul 31st 2007 7:42PM
There have been a couple of iPod rumors floating around that are supposedly going to be anounced that week. I guess time will tell.
Daniel Smith @ Aug 1st 2007 5:48AM
If they say it is a Mac event I'm sure their will not be any iPod/iPhone news. iMac, iLife, iWork and possibly news about the mini will be on the agenda.
Lance @ Aug 1st 2007 6:47PM
My understanding is that Apple has CLEARLY stated that there will be no iPod or iPhone announcements on Aug. 7th. Strictly Mac stuff. So that really narrows it down.
Chicksta @ Jul 31st 2007 7:35PM
If you look historically at Apple's track record of product releases, they're usually pretty predictable. They always manage to eek something out in their key 'back to school' timeframe, although it used to be part of the 'East' Macworld or the European show. I'm just happy I can finally order my iMac, as I wanted a next-gen model...
Big John @ Jul 31st 2007 7:38PM
Please, please let that ugly keyboard be a fake. Please. I just switched in Feb. and don't want to buy this refresh anyway, but I fear that it will survive on until I do want to buy a new Mac.
TVGenius @ Jul 31st 2007 8:27PM
Or at least let it only be for iMacs. I'm due for a new Mac Pro that should be ordered next month... I hate the old crumbcatcher but the rumored design's even worse. Like I keep saying, they finally made a keyboard as bad as that disaster they call Mighty Mouse.
Big John @ Jul 31st 2007 8:46PM
No! Take it on the Mac Pro ;) I use iMacs.
We can agree -- just say no to this keyboard!
Peter @ Jul 31st 2007 10:39PM
The best indication that the photos are a fake is that Apple hasn't issued any cease-and-desist orders demanding that the photos be pulled. If these were real, those letters would have flown through the internet, i.e. see how fast the videos of the revised iPod user interface got pulled last week? Sure sign those were real and a sure sign that this keyboard is a fake.
Chris @ Aug 2nd 2007 12:33AM
You do know you can use a plethora of any other third party usb keyboards and still use them on a Mac right?
Big John @ Aug 1st 2007 8:09PM
Yes, none of which looks as good with the iMac as the first party designed keyboard. I've yet to see one that fits with the Apple look without having an iPod dock(?!) attached or a few dozen extra function keys.
Michitastic @ Jul 31st 2007 7:40PM
I bet there's a new bl00t00th keyboard.
Alex Padilla @ Jul 31st 2007 7:43PM
please, please, please update the Macbook computers for when I buy one next week. make it happen!
Zach @ Jul 31st 2007 7:44PM
oh man, i just bought my macbook pro, and if its redesigned ill go apeshit
Ireland @ Jul 31st 2007 8:41PM
If you just bought it they'll swat it up no problem. If you just bought it a month a go however?
Mickey Jones @ Aug 1st 2007 12:42AM
apPLeshit
Frank @ Aug 1st 2007 5:39AM
@Zach: They just updated them a few weeks ago, won't be updated again anytime soon...
Rob @ Aug 1st 2007 2:45PM
I wouldn't be too worried Zach. If anything, there will probably be a very minor update in October, mainly for Leopard, but that's it.
Zach @ Aug 1st 2007 4:21PM
nah i bought it back in june when the redesign had come out (new gfx, led screen, etc)
Aaron Zollo @ Jul 31st 2007 7:50PM
I was hoping this was true, I am holding off for a new imac until after next week. A new ilife would be nice too but prolly not gonna happen.
jeff @ Jul 31st 2007 7:58PM
Dam I just purchased a Macbook pro as well. They have to update this machine its due for a refresh and maybe a price drop.
dbam987 @ Jul 31st 2007 9:41PM
I thought Apple already made a refresh for the Mac Book Pro (15-inch & 17-inch) with the Santa Rosa chipset in April or May of this year... This is probably for the 12 inch MBP rumors. I hope.
Mr. B @ Jul 31st 2007 8:04PM
Let's have a 12 inch Macbook Pro already.
cgarison @ Jul 31st 2007 8:12PM
Yea, I need I nice little 12" MacBook Pro to pack in my gadget bag with all of my camera equipment on photo shoots.
Cf @ Aug 3rd 2007 10:17AM
YES!!!!
I love my 12" G4, even though it's 5 years old I use it more than my new 15" mac book pro. I would love to see Apple come out with a smaller form factor machine than mac books.
Cf @ Aug 3rd 2007 10:22AM
...and since I'm dreaming, it would really be nice if they integrated a mobile broadband antenna also.
PeteC @ Jul 31st 2007 8:10PM
I think the macbook pro will probably be relatively safe, they only just updated the screen's etc, I reckon this will just be imac's. Quad core per chance? LED backlit I reckon and that keyboard I'm thinking will be happening, I love my macbook keyboard so if it feels like that, I'm happy, I'm just a bit worried abotu the angle as it looks a bit flat but it must just have some fold out flaps at the top so it sits right.
andy @ Jul 31st 2007 8:15PM
"Dam I just purchased a Macbook pro as well. They have to update this machine its due for a refresh and maybe a price drop."
erm, thats less than a month old with not really any bigger upgrades available lol
only the mini and imac are really in the frame here
Rob @ Aug 1st 2007 2:48PM
It would be nice to see a refresh of the macbook, possibly with Santa Rosa. That's not off the table for Tuesday, is it?
cjh @ Jul 31st 2007 8:16PM
wOOt!
andrew harrison @ Jul 31st 2007 8:22PM
yay new macs
ideally new ipods as well, i have cash saved for one.
also a new batch of cinema displays would be nice, i'm in the market for one now that we're in the new financial year.
Homeboy @ Jul 31st 2007 8:25PM
Oh snap, gathering of the press ans hit. This must be something big.
A new iMac is evident but please let is also be the new iPod G6. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeas.
kyle @ Jul 31st 2007 8:28PM
I dont think they would update the MBP's, mabye a price drop, but they just released the newer ones at beginning of summer.
I dont know though, i dont know anything
aliaskary @ Jul 31st 2007 8:30PM
I am hoping for the new ipod. holding for the last 2 months. somethings gotta be coming soon with all the price discounts. a walmart up here (toronto) had the ipod display empty....didnt see any in stock...while the nano and shuffles were all on display in a different window.
Nathan @ Jul 31st 2007 8:49PM
iPod running OS X = Mac? :D lol
ramcosca @ Aug 1st 2007 3:19AM
Well, that does make sense.
David @ Jul 31st 2007 9:02PM
looks like I am holding off buying that new ipod nano for a week
sageimac @ Jul 31st 2007 9:02PM
If this is the new iMac announcement, how soon will they be in stores? I hope the same day - I have been waiting for months.
johnzilla @ Jul 31st 2007 9:13PM
If it is a new iMac, please please let it be black. I'll buy one right away if there's a black 24" widescreen version.
Emily Grae @ Jul 31st 2007 9:34PM
One thing i HATE is people that complain when Apple comes out with something new right after they bought the older one. The iMac and pretty much the entire line of macs is up for refresh, and everybody knows it. So anybody that went out and bought one lately can go ahead and enjoy it, but I'll be damned if I feel sorry for them when/if the line they bought is updated. I mean, would they rather Apple e-mail them and personally ask them permission to update their computers first? Get real.
That being said, I personally am hoping it's a refresh of at least the iMac. But realistically I can't get one for a while anyways so whatever...
Marc @ Aug 3rd 2007 9:35PM
Amen to that Emily. I wish everyone would stop whining and realise that Apple are one of the only companies really pushing boundaries and hey, guess what? To do that you need to update your products all the time. I'm looking forward to seeing how they've redesigned the future this time
Adam Tyree @ Jul 31st 2007 9:37PM
I dunno, something is telling me it's going to be more than just the new iMac. When only one product is released, Apple usually just updates their website with a big picture of it so people can help but notice it. They don't go for the big keynote. The only times they have events for new products is when there is more than one, because they don't want the huge image of one of them on the feature product page of the site to take away from the other. So I'm thinking it may be the iMac and maybe the long rumored ultraslim portable (MacBook mini?)
Alex @ Jul 31st 2007 10:16PM
At the last open Town Hall event I remember, all they did was release the Intel Mac Mini. Hopefully they'll have something more to show at this one.
Adam Tyree @ Jul 31st 2007 11:03PM
At that town hall event, Apple released both the Intel Mac mini AND the (pretty much forgotten about) iPod Hi Fi. So hopefully they'll be doing two or more products again.
Danny @ Jul 31st 2007 10:12PM
DAMNIT! I'm going on vacation next week so my liquid assets will be somewhat limited. This press event is just gonna make it worse. I guess that's what credit is for :)
