An image surfaced on the BlackBerryForums this morning that purports to be of the upcoming BlackBerry 9000 series. The forum member with the scoop claims that the device has no touchscreen, and that rumors are raging even within RIM as to whether
touchscreen devices are in the works. What can supposedly be confirmed is that the device in the picture is part of the 9000 series, 3G is being tested on multiple devices, and that HTML email is in the works for the BlackBerry service, possibly in conjunction with the launch of the 9xxx devices.
Update: Turns out this picture was
swiped from an eBay auction, and while that doesn't necessarily mean it's not an upcoming BlackBerry device, it does call into question the accompanying commentary from the forum user who posted the image, so take it all with a grain of salt.
Update 2: Those auctioneers added a new pic with some spicy innards and a view of the back. Check it out after the break.

Any guesses on when RIM will come out with a new style; cause that phone looks just like the 8830.
rock99rock @ Dec 31st 2007 10:02AM
No, no it does not. Unless you're saying that because of the qwerty, standard blackberry talk/options buttons, and a screen. If that is the case, you're talking about every blackberry. This on has an aluminum wrap-around, some new pointing device, sexy mesh speaker cover, izzzza naaahce ;) I can't tell if that is a new button on the bottom right, or an external memory card slot. Either way, it looks great. Cosmetically quite different than the 8800 series. Its like the 8300 mated the 8800, then had a three-way with the Moto Q2.
Rob @ Dec 31st 2007 11:16AM
Actually, it looks more like a Pearl.
Darnell @ Dec 31st 2007 1:02PM
I like the 8800 series better. This looks like a by-product of a one night stand with the iphone.
Jonathan Bergeron @ Dec 31st 2007 3:55PM
yeah looks like the 8830 but better looking buttons.
nerdtalker @ Dec 31st 2007 5:52PM
I'm very underwhelmed. I was expecting something better considering the split keyboard angle patent they filed, a one-handed mobile product like that would excite me.
But this looks like... any other blackberry... Why not bring the screen up, shrink the blackberry logo, and make the keyboard buttons slightly taller? The center scroll and call buttons are already large by blackberry standards on this phone.
I was under the impression that Blackberries already had HTML email, lacking that would pretty much drive me insane.
Derek @ Dec 31st 2007 9:49AM
i want a new blackberry with Push to talk like the 7250 or 7100i
That area needs a friggen update.
yort @ Dec 31st 2007 8:48PM
if you're looking for push to talk consider at&t. ptt is a feature that is carrier supported. my 8300 has it and i'm sure many other blackberrys on at&t now have it
Andy @ Dec 31st 2007 9:51AM
It looks fake to me. Isn't the logo on the bottom right of the picture from eBay? Doesn't eBay insert that logo in auctions?
ebob9 @ Dec 31st 2007 10:02AM
Here's the ebay auction it's supposedly from:
http://cgi.ebay.com/BLACKBERRY-PDA-Camera-GSM-Cell-Phone-PARTS-LCD_W0QQitemZ310010262268QQihZ021QQcategoryZ64355QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting
Seems fake? No idea really.
Andy @ Dec 31st 2007 10:13AM
Picture from an auction of someone with 99.2% Positive Feedback versus a Random Guy with 3 posts on a BlackBerry Forum?
I'm calling this "spy shot" a FAKE. The person that posted the picture pulled it off of eBay.
RIFRAF @ Dec 31st 2007 9:53AM
I wonder why they replaced the trackball with what looks like a track point? I like my trackball on my 8800.
Rob @ Dec 31st 2007 11:15AM
Looks like a track ball to me...
RIFRAF @ Dec 31st 2007 11:29AM
No, you can see it's flat/disk looking with the way the shadow hits off of it.
Chad @ Dec 31st 2007 3:16PM
perhaps because I have had to get my 8800 replaced 3 times since May because my trackball stopped scrolling down.
Dave Zatz @ Dec 31st 2007 10:25AM
Looks exactly like a Motorola Q 9* keyboard...
Jeff @ Dec 31st 2007 10:44AM
Honestly, have you ever seen a Motorola q9? How can you say its the same keyboard???? Compare it to an 8800 and you will see it is an 88xx keyboard that has slightly larger (taller) keys for easier typing.
Jeff @ Dec 31st 2007 10:45AM
@ RIFRAF - maybe because of the dirt, etc that gets into the device via the trackball method? I've seen a few with the trackball failing because of dirt and oil.
Constable Odo @ Dec 31st 2007 10:56AM
There's no mistaking that's a BlackBerry. Why foul up a basically good design.
BlackBerrys should not bother with touchscreens. I doubt if the users want them and RIM would probably only screw up a good thing.
Leave touchscreens for the entertainment/media handsets.

Looks to me like the second 'B' in BlackBerry is backwards.
H4MM3R @ Dec 31st 2007 11:09AM
Could it be a CDMA Curve? HHHmmmm http://www.blackberryforums.com/off-topic-lounge/111535-what-bb-chinese-knock-off.html

RIFRAF @ Dec 31st 2007 11:55AM
I figured as much, but I still prefer the trackball :)
Mike @ Dec 31st 2007 11:56AM
I've heard much talk of a new BB here in Waterloo, but I don't think all the hype would be warranted for what looks like a small visual update. It does seem like all the major Canadian carriers are dumping the Pearl ($0 on a 3 year deal, half with $15 unlimited email plans). I think the next big thing is a new consumer BB. This new 9000 series looks bland and business oriented, which is exactly what they are supposed to be.
kevinm @ Dec 31st 2007 4:00PM
Yeah the second "B" in BlackBerry is backwords. I'm going to say that this is a Chinese knockoff of the Curve.
Miles @ Jan 1st 2008 2:20AM
iphone is better.
aaronsheath @ Jan 1st 2008 10:59AM
Personally, I think it rocks. Sure, iPhones are pretty cool, too. But seriously, how cool is that wrap-around metal finish? *swoons*
Linh @ Jan 1st 2008 4:52PM
@Miles: Why brings up the iPhone? Is that all your tiny little brain can think of? Ok, keep being a fanboy that's fine with me. But WHY HERE? WHY iPHONE AND BLACKBERRY.
Sorry guys, I don't want to be screaming on the first day of the year, but.....
Ok, happy new year everyone.
Jon @ Jan 1st 2008 6:48PM
Those buttons are oddly reminiscent of those on Motorola's Q9m phone... wierd...
