Vigor's Force Recon SP and Force Recon BT will dismember your brain
Vigor, a PC-maker not known for its subtlety or underpowered systems, has just launched two new desktop powerhouses destined to shake you to your very core. The Force Recon SP and Force Recon BT will undoubtedly leave you in existence-questioning bafflement as you experience the sheer neck-breaking speed of their CPUs and accompanying graphics chipsets. The former tears enemies asunder with AMD's Phenom quad-core processors coupled with dual ATI Radeon HD3870 graphics -- capable of driving XHD displays at 2560 x 1600. The latter sports Intel's quad-core mind-destroyer, the QX9650 Core 2 Extreme (which trots along at 3.0GHz), utilizes the new SSE4 instructions, and supports a slew of options which blend into what Vigor refers to as the "juiced" configuration. Both models are available now, with the SP starting at $2,319, and the BT clocking in at $2,869 -- though both of those numbers can escalate quickly.

Well, I'm disappointed.
When I saw "will dismember your brain", I thought someone had a new military weapon. A new PC is hardly a brain dismembering machine.

and this is news why exactly?
-Phenom is bad
-Dual 3870's aint nothing special
-it's prebuilt in a flashy under-featured case
Ken @ Feb 11th 2008 5:08PM
Dual 3870 X2's would be a more aggressive offering, but that's $900 just for graphics.
J Low @ Feb 11th 2008 4:50PM
As an added bonus, the case doubles as a 3 million candle power lamp, sure to brighten up even the darkest of mancaves.

Ewoks FTW @ Feb 12th 2008 3:08AM
that'll run crysis on extreme? schweet...
whitehat2009 @ Feb 11th 2008 5:30PM
Um...not to be a fanboy or anything, but for the first system, Phenom and ATI HD 3870s aren't exactly mind-blowing, especially considering Intel's 45nm quad-cores and the nVidia GeForce 8800s...
celerysword @ Feb 11th 2008 6:36PM
According to Newegg, the case is called the "El Diablo" If I remember correctly, that's Spanish for "ugly ass case".
Brian @ Feb 11th 2008 9:50PM
QFT! (That means quoted for truth... not quit f-ing talking... it's too bad those get confused)
Lord_von_Punx @ Feb 11th 2008 7:10PM
jealous cause you dont have it
Dave @ Feb 11th 2008 7:26PM
What the hell? This isn't news, or blogworthy in any way. They build systems you can easily put together at NewEgg. Why advertise them here over something like Ibuypower.com etc?
Build your own, you can do better for cheaper.
dizzytired @ Feb 11th 2008 8:05PM
Also note: Those prices aren't for the quad core chips, tack on another grand for the high end (of their offerings) intel quads.
Allen @ Feb 11th 2008 8:59PM
Why is TimeWarner advertising Vigor products with posts? Honestly, this is nothing special: equivalent PC's have been available for months.
Brian @ Feb 11th 2008 9:49PM
Where's Skulltrail?
I want dual socket 771 quad cores in my super computer!
(Maybe it will never be accepted, because of it's achille's heel: The ram)
Ibrahim @ Feb 11th 2008 10:30PM
EMBARRASSING!
Engadget: Overdrive PC has been shipping Q9650's at 3.8GHz (AIR COOLED!) for about a week now and no page and little Vigor comes out with 3.0 and they get this? Did they pay you? Overdrive PC licks this machine sideways and backwards.
I don't see the point, really. 3.8GHz on a quad-core AIR COOLED is what makes news. Not this RUBBISH.

"...with dual ATI Radeon HD3870 graphics -- capable of driving XHD displays at 2560 x 1600."
Ummm... my old 7600GT (256mb) can power a XHD display (or displays, but I only have one). So, yeah...

Man this whole post sounded like marketing. I sure hope someone doesn't own any of a certain PC maker's stock. Really nothing spectacular. The only thing unique about PC companies these days are the cases, which in this case is freely available from newegg anyhow (go newegg, btw.)
Also when I first saw the picture and the title, i thought that the front fan area was where your brain went.
