Sony Ericsson says XPERIA X1 is still on track for this year
It looks like those eagerly waiting to get their hands on Sony Ericsson's HTC-made XPERIA X1 can rest a little easier, as the much anticipated apparently is still on track for release in the second half of this year, and not in February 2009 as recently rumored. That word comes straight from Sony Ericsson Corporate Vice President of the Global Communications Aldo Liguori, who told the Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog that "I can confirm that we will be launching the X1 product in 2nd Half of 2008, as per our announcement of 10th February." That sure is about as definitive as you can get, though we're guessing there's plenty of folks out there that think any date other than tomorrow is too long to wait.

Yay is right... and as I have stated before... every day delayed in releasing this device is a day closer to being yesterday's news!

What's the point, it's made by HTC.

Such an awesome device... Too bad it's wasted on WinMo. I'd be all over this like no other if there was an Android version. Since Sony opted not to join the Open Handset Alliance, it looks like we're SOL =(
Kris @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:25AM
Android is cool and all and I love the idea behind it but it's a few years away from being a good competitor to Windows Mobile.
Despite the phones that have had WM on them, WM is actually a pretty solid OS. The problem is Microsoft gives its developers minimum and recommended requirements. Most companies, like HTC, usually go the minimum route making WM seem extremely slow. Not only that, but many device manufacturers do not put the appropriate drivers onto their devices for WM. This adds an extra sluggishness. After all, would you buy a new phone every 1-2 years if your phone was quick and snappy?
john @ Mar 3rd 2008 3:00PM
Yup. If it ran Android, or Maemo, or something comparable, I'd be all over this phone. Since it's an HTC phone, and I seem to recall that they were working with Google on an Android phone, I was hoping we might see an Android version of this one.
Heck, if it ran a proprietary platform other than winmo, like some of samsung's phones, I'd be all over it.
Qwerty keyboard, microSDHC, and will work with T-mobile 3G (so I hear) ... and it has a qwerty keyboard. The only other thing I need to hear is that it does bluetooth DUN. Sounds perfect. Then you find out it has winmo. *HURL*
No thanks. Hopefully whatever Android phone HTC and Google come up with will be as sexy as this one, instead of looking like the god-awful prototype we keep seeing in every google phone demo (with half of the face being a tiny screen, and the other half of the face having a qwerty keyboard, like a blackberry).
Maestro @ Mar 3rd 2008 3:38PM
So I take it you have actually used the Sony and an RTM Android phone and compared them to one another?
Err...or not.
Iain @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:12AM
Not at all surprised.
USEB is a very reliable source and the guy who writes it said when the list came to light that it was false.
SE said it would be along this year when it was unveiled and it's really too big of a product for them to let it slide.
rndmnme @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:13AM
That still leaves the ultimate question... will it pla...err... how much is it going to cost?
Frankenstein Black @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:13AM
This platform will be the precursor to the PSP phone, watch!!

Too bad this is not slated for release in Canada...
I guess Sony Canada is making too much money.
Will Static @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:55AM
If it is released anywhere in the world you can buy it in Canada...

So Sony Ericsson know how to make quicks comments....
Me and more than a HUNDRED users of Sony Ericsson P990 have been trying to get answers from SE for the past 2 years why our phone cant be used to surf web, take non-blurry pictures, have a louder volume when listening to music, have a louder loudspeaker for knowning when the phone rings etc....
When we purchased the phone for 600-700$ in 2006,our phones used to(till January 2007) reboot when a call came or during a call...alarm used to ring madly waking us at odd hours...using the camera was useless...wifi was a joke, muti tasking(like internet and music etc)used to reboot the phone.
SO THOSE WHO ARE WAITING FOR SONY ERICSSON XPERIA X1,BEWARE >>> SE TOOK 600-700$ FROM US AND GAVE A PRODUCT WHICH TO THIS DATE DOES NOT PERFORM THE MINIMUM THINGS IT WAS ADVERTISED FOR.REPEATED COMPLAINTS BY P990,M600 AND W950 USERS FELL INTO DEAF EARS OF SE...SE LATER ASKED US TO BUY A 600$ SONY ERICSSON P1 IF WE WERE NOT HAPPY WITH P990.
SO ARE YOU READY TO BUY A PHONE FROM SUCH A COMPANY???
Craig White @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:53AM
Cause it looks cool.
James @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:46PM
Same response HTC gave us about the titan II. Oh wait who is making this phone for SE? Thats right HTC. Good luck with this phone when you find out something is wrong with it because we all know their response is going to be to buy their upcoming phone.
D_T @ Mar 3rd 2008 2:03PM
Yeah right...P990,M600 and W950 also looked cool.
And i see your comment has been voted high here...thanks to a group of SE evangelists from a specific blog..lol
Eric Leung @ Mar 4th 2008 2:07AM
O_o my SE phone takes great pictures, can surf the web, has loud enough volume for music... i dont know what the heck youre talkin bout (k810i, btw)
Thorin78 @ Mar 3rd 2008 11:51AM
I'm so glad it's still on track. But I hope it won't be $1100 like this website says

Iain @ Mar 3rd 2008 12:42PM
That's a pre-order price, not a list price.
That's a company charging through the nose because the phone isn't available yet and there's no set price, so they can get away with it safe in the knowledge that they'll make huge profits on each one that is pre-ordered.
Mykael @ Mar 3rd 2008 1:16PM
I heard this phone will be around in July/Aug timeframe. Also it is supposed to be priced at under $500 as well
Semi @ Mar 3rd 2008 2:22PM
i dont buy this bs from the sonyEricsson... its usual sony Bullshit!
TareX @ Mar 3rd 2008 3:21PM
If they meant to -diplomatically- say December 31st, then they can forget it.
Q2 2008 sounds too late. If anything, there'd be a dozen other released HTC, Dell, HP and Android phones that belonged to companies that weren't stupid enough to announce them 10 months in advance.
Trialandterror @ Mar 3rd 2008 4:09PM
Can someone please explain to me what motivated them to go for the 65K color screen? Bear in mind that the iPhone has a 16M colors lcd screen.
JonK @ Mar 4th 2008 9:30AM
Because there is not really a good reason to go above 16bit. Windows mobile supports depths greater than 16bit. The performance hit is not worth the minimal difference.

Except for the windows part it looks like a good replacement for my N800. I'll wait until it is hacked.

Every phone doesn't need to be 'hacked' to be useful. Some are actually open like this one.
Middle Path @ Mar 4th 2008 1:04PM
Even the second half of 08 is toooo long. What other phone do they expect us to buy by then? a HTC phone? Oh wait...
