Typo - 1pm Eastern, not 11pm (though you have it right in the headline)
RC @ Mar 6th 2008 6:40AM
Why didn't Engadget cover the Mix keynote yesterday? I find it incredibly lame that you didn't.
TechSingh101 @ Mar 5th 2008 4:38PM
Why does it say 11:00PM for eastern? Did you mean 1:00PM?
Alex @ Mar 5th 2008 4:42PM
Please, please, please, let there be a SlingPlayer client.
Canman99 @ Mar 5th 2008 8:23PM
I agree! It was rumored that Sling Media may have got their hands on the SDK early. I just hope we don't have to surrender an arm and a leg/first born child for a Slingplayer!
Adam @ Mar 5th 2008 4:43PM
pretty awesome that there is some sort of time warp so that I can view it at 11:00am here in New York. Go AAPL
bob sakamano @ Mar 5th 2008 4:49PM
sucks for tokyo! get your days right suckaZ!!
Jesse S @ Mar 5th 2008 5:22PM
Do you actually think that anyone in an Asian country actually cares about the iPhone? Their phones are years ahead of ours.
Those lucky Koreans.
Nick @ Mar 12th 2008 4:55AM
Yes, they do. While the phones might be more advanced, they lack style and "wtf, that's cool" factor.
biohazard1067 @ Mar 5th 2008 6:16PM
Oh yeah, tell that to all the asians coming into my Apple Store buying 5 iPhones at a time to send them to singapore, china and other countries over seas. Then we'll see who's right.
Michael LaFramboise @ Mar 5th 2008 6:36PM
Riiight.. because as we all know the whole world spins around USA and Japan is just too cool to comply w/ the standards...
Asshat :/
Backlin @ Mar 5th 2008 7:20PM
Not to mention all of the iPhone knockoffs.
Reid @ Mar 5th 2008 7:46PM
You don't hear someone say "those lucky Koreans" very often. I wonder if you're referring to the North or the South :)
The US has it's failings, but I sure as hell am glad to be here over 95%+ of the nations in the world...
webon @ Mar 5th 2008 8:46PM
I'm in Tokyo, there are pretty cool phones here, but if they release that SDK, I'll get me an Iphone.
bachviet @ Mar 6th 2008 12:20AM
The iPhone won't work in Japan or Korea so I don't think they care.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Mar 5th 2008 4:50PM
finally. I've been waiting for the SDK. Maybe there'll be more too. SDK isn't just enough for me
Darnell @ Mar 5th 2008 4:51PM
Flash please--that's all I want. I'm sure some business people would like Office and gamers would like... games.
Brendan Sheehan @ Mar 5th 2008 5:12PM
Not happening, sorry.
Josh @ Mar 5th 2008 5:25PM
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/03/05/steve_jobs_pans_flash_on_the_iphone.html
Yeah, not happening.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Mar 5th 2008 5:36PM
maybe when the SDK platform is released, someone could make a flash browser?
Darnell @ Mar 5th 2008 5:43PM
I didn't think we'd actually see it tomorrow, I'm just hoping that it's in the pike.
stupidnoduhdude @ Mar 5th 2008 6:07PM
Funny how that Apple Insider article states that mobile devices don't have access to websites that use embedded Flash (i.e, YouTube), and/or that it would be unfeasible due to the processing and battery requirements that are currently lacking.
To my knowledge, the Nokia n95-2 has this feature, and also has a considerably slower processor than the iPhone and a slightly less powerful battery, as well.
Come on Steve, enough with the excuses.
Scott @ Mar 5th 2008 8:35PM
Nokia N95 has Flash Lite 2, which is NOT the same as full-blown Flash 9 on your desktop. It misses out on many things, such as streaming FLV playback.
This lack of "decent" mobile flash is not a problem limited to Apple! This is an industry problem.
stupidnoduhdude @ Mar 5th 2008 11:02PM
@ Scott
I believe you are mistaken. Nokia brought in-browser streaming FLV support to the N95-2 within a previous FW update (I believe v15).
Here's a good example: http://www.symbian-guru.com/welcome/2008/01/new-firmware-fo.html
dagamer34 @ Mar 6th 2008 12:20AM
Flash is a pointless waste of time on the iPhone. It would be used for 2 things, videos and games. Perhaps you would like to have your porno on your iPhone, in which case I suggest websites have links to the H.264 stream instead of having people complain about a pointless waste of energy that is Flash.
As for games, shit, wait for the SDK.
Scott @ Mar 6th 2008 1:25PM
@stupidnoduhdude
It looks like you're right about Nokia recently offering FL3 embedded into a FW release of one of it's models (not all N95's are eligible), however the point still stands that this is a mobile industry problem, not just iPhone. iPhone users just happen to complain the loudest. :)
FL3 also only supports desktop Flash 8, which means Flash 9 only apps (rare as they may be) still won't work even with FL3.
Personally, I think Flash-only web sites were a bad idea to begin with, and now that mobile Internet has reached a usable state, we're now experiencing the results of this poor choice on a wide scale.

Music would probably be decent....but Video wah wah wah
Curtis the Claw Game Master V2 @ Mar 5th 2008 5:57PM
I use EDGE and Orb for music and it works fine, it's nice because I can listen to my whole 200+gb music collection wherever, video sucks though.

Kevin Butts @ Mar 5th 2008 5:18PM
Please excuse my ignorance, but what is SDK???
xbit @ Mar 5th 2008 5:25PM
Software Development Kit. It allows third parties to write software for a platform.
There's been SDKs for Symbian, WinMo, Palm, etc. for years.
IndiaTech @ Mar 5th 2008 5:26PM
Software Development Kit
Jack @ Mar 5th 2008 5:28PM
software development kit
allows programers to bring out third party application for a certain platform
not optimistic!
BV @ Mar 5th 2008 5:51PM
Confirmed no flash. Strike 1.
If the SDK isn't released tomorrow and there are crazy restrictions on what can be done with apps (no accessories etc) that could be strikes 2 and 3.
Patriks7 @ Mar 5th 2008 5:56PM
Do you actually know that Tokyo isnt in Korea like you said?
Patriks7 @ Mar 5th 2008 5:58PM
:s that should be a reply to Jesse S above -.-
bob sakamano @ Mar 5th 2008 6:13PM
did anyone notice that Ryan always gets to write the good stories
he is the best though
-i like the thought of a slingplayer, except battery life would be approx 3 minutes.
-AIM (obviously), maybe true because of their recent news of opening up the program, but i also sometimes doubt it because they like to make money off of text messaging
-real gps
-games
...thats all i could think of for now
engadgetier @ Mar 5th 2008 6:22PM
there better be some good apps coming out, i think and office app would be pretty nice. :)
