Samsung's YP-P2 coming in 16GB flavor soon
Samsung fans, your wildest dreams have come to fruition. Word on the street is that the company's do-it-all PMP, the YP-P2, will be getting an update in the form of a new 16GB model. The new player -- which boasts features like a 3-inch WQVGA screen, Bluetooth 2.0 support, and H.264, OGG, and WMV playback -- will cost somewhere in the vicinity of $347. There's no word on a street date or price for US or European markets, but when we know something, you'll know something.

This picture is an example of why you don't give your guitar viagra. ;)

It’s kind of reminiscent of Prince’s performance at the Super Bowl that way.
senyl @ Mar 19th 2008 10:27AM
It's not the size of your guitar that counts, just how well you strum it.
oshean @ Mar 18th 2008 9:44PM
14.9011612 Gigabyte or 17,179,869,184 Byte, which is it?
JohnTitor @ Mar 18th 2008 9:56PM
it's 15.2587890625 GB
divide 16,000,000 B by 1024^2 (B/GB)
Nobu @ Mar 19th 2008 6:51AM
Or, if it really is 16GB, 17,179,869,184 bytes. That is:
16GB * 1024 = 16,384MB
16384MB * 1024 = 16,777,216KB
16777216KB * 1024 = 17,179,869,184B
And, if memory serves me correctly, 17179869184 * 8 = 137,438,953,472b (bits)
^.^

H.264? Vorbis? 16GB? Bluetooth?
Damn, I want one... If it just didn't have built-in battery. (I can't be bothered to wait until it recharges, I want to be able to pop empty battery out, full battery in, and here I go another 10 hours..)
Wwhat @ Mar 19th 2008 11:57AM
Just buy 2 and have one charge while using the other.
Wwhat @ Mar 19th 2008 11:59AM
Of course then you need some sort of sync setup so they have the same data, always something isn't there :/

so..if i recall, didnt they have this in a 16 gig capacity already?it's been on samsung's site for this thing for a while.
jawsogre @ Mar 18th 2008 11:37PM
8's have been out for a while... I have a 4, and it is quite honestly the best MP3 player I've ever owned (including some Creatives, and iPods). A user serviceable battery would be phenomenal... but I still get plenty of steam out of a charge.
-Tj- @ Mar 19th 2008 3:24AM
What the? wait... Is that guy happy he's holding a really long glowing dil... oh. Never mind.
Xepol @ Mar 19th 2008 8:06AM
Hey, the battery lasts way longer than 10 hours unless yer playing video, so no worries about the built in battery. And it recharges pretty quick too.
And as great as this is, I'm hoping a 32gb version is behind it!
paperless @ Mar 19th 2008 11:43AM
Just wondering...why would anyone buy this instead of an iPod Touch if iPod touch is far superior to this thing?
Oh and dont come with the "overpriced" bs because it doesnt apply here.
Christian @ Mar 19th 2008 1:25PM
Without going the whole fanboy thing...
Bluetooth option allows you to do many things with this such as answering your phone and wireless headset for 2 listeners. This is another alternative touch screen device with a very nice widescreen format. The UI is very intersting too with the whole "dial" movement. The profile of this mp3 player is pretty slim and small too.
ejb @ Mar 19th 2008 2:11PM
besides BT mentioned above,
fm tuner?
when i walk to and from work, wifi radio doesn't cut it. they dont even have an overpriced fm radio tuner for the touch yet
also got a thing for dedicated buttons which apples apperantly refuses to ever use
Yuri @ Mar 22nd 2008 9:15PM
There's a lot of reasons someone would get a P2
Yes, price is a big one. My friend has one, and the fact that he paid $50 is cool
FM Tuner, like someone already stated, you don't have to pay $30USD for some clunky add-on FM tuner. I can pay $1 and get a small separate FM tuner, Apple is cheap, and an FM tuner isn't even a big piece of hardware, nor does it take much power at all.
Aesthetically the P2 looks much different. It is all piano black, and a bit more sleek. The LED light in the front, it suits other people better.
The software inside is nice, it looks and feels different than Apple's, without losing convienance and ease of use.
The bluetooth is nice, for someone like me, the bluetooth serves much more purpose over wi-fi. I'm not looking for a media player that can surf the web, I have a cellphone with maps, and a notebook for everything else.
The name. Some people like Samsung, some people like Apple, there are going to be apple fanboys like yourself who are entirely biased and have no intelligent arguement against the P2.
Honestly, I like the P2. The iTouch is a great player, but I think the P2 is a worthy competetor. It's not worse or better. There are things the P2 can do that the touch can't, and vice versa.
psych264 @ Mar 19th 2008 2:30PM
Does this guitar make me look fat or do I just have a small e-peen?
Lo_Opy! @ Mar 21st 2008 9:30AM
ooooo!!!! nah i dont need it when i have a 32gb iPod Touch :P
Arms III @ Mar 21st 2008 4:32PM
Anyone know if the P2 will ever be able to tune FM stations while listening to the BT headset??? currently it disconnects my headset when I want to tune an FM station at the gym and says they're incompatible. I dont want to have to carry a hardwire headset with me too!!
Jarrett @ Mar 26th 2008 11:49AM
the 16GB p2 has been seen on bestbuy.ca and as for the radio question no not unless they put in an internal antenna because the wire from wired headsets acts as the antenna
xxAndrexx @ Apr 21st 2008 10:58PM
when is the 16gb gonna come out in the us
sam Y @ Jul 9th 2008 12:44PM
I think 16GB will be helpful to store more movies.
I will expect next version of firmware.
