Even the appearance of Justin Long as the scrappy sidekick failed to keep Live Free or Die Hard from so-bad-it's-bad territory -- but the various appearances of a Nokia 770 bestowed with superpowers (sure, all handhelds can sign into satellite phone networks and interface with power station control systems) were pretty entertaining in their own right. We're a little confused, though -- didn't the producers at least realize that our man Bruce would be using an N810 to chat up his fans online, though? One more shot after the break.

It was an okay movie, for a summer blockbuster (compare it to the original Die Hard and you'll see why people are saying the franchise has gone downhill), but it made some hilarious misuses of computers and other gadgets.
Engadget brought it up here because the entire point of this series of articles is to bring up hilarious misuses of computers and other gadgets in films and TV shows.

Whether you liked it or not isn't the point. Everyone's entitled to an opinion. But the problem Ryan Block made here was snarky definitive statement suggesting that the movie is by and large considered by everyone to be not just bad, but "so bad it's bad." The kind of presumptive tone one would use to describe Catwoman, Freddy Got Fingered, etc. Unfortunately he's made a complete ass out of himself in doing so. Die Hard 4 scored 80% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed $130 million or so.
Just a tasteless sign of arrogance and/or ignorance.

Usually I am not a grammar/spelling nazi, but since this is a gadget blog, I think it may be a good idea to get the name of the product right. I want to point out that it's actually just "Nokia 770", there's no N before the 770. They didn't start adding the N till the N800.

It's a linux device with BT and Wifi captabilites... if you write the right software, why should it not do those things? Besides beeing slow...

As long as you're going to the movie expecting over-the-top action/violence and tons of special effects with very little plot to back it up, it's a very enjoyable movie. I really enjoyed watching it because I know what to expect when I go to a movie like that. Don't get me wrong, I like a good drama or something with a deep and involving plot, but mindless entertainment is great too.

It has always been one of the most cowardly ways to assert expertise, to give bad ratings to generally well liked productions. It saddens me to see that engadget would stoop so low. Man up guys. Dh4 was one of the best action movies in a long time! It even caters to windows fans by presenting the "i'm a mac" guy as a pansy.

Why are people modding this guy up? DH4 was a decent summer movie, but fell way short of the quality of the rest of the series. There have also been way more impressive action movies over the past couple of years.

I have a 770, as well as a N810. The 770 wasn't part of the N series, that started with the N800.

I actually enjoyed Die Hard 4. I'm waiting for the "Unrated" version on Blu-ray. The action was good, the visuals were great.

Didn't he also use a Nokia 9300 in the movie as well? I could have sworn I saw him using it-and I gotta tell you EDGE speed isn't that blazing fast! It could have been the 9300i (with Wifi), I dunno.
I totally missed the 770. I have one, want the n800.

Check out where the thing is mounted, there is absolutely no usable purpose other than to look cool. It is physically impossible to look at the screen and touch it simultaneously like that. Also look closely and you'll see that the all white screen is rocking the "charging" logo. They couldn't even bother to turn the damn thing on! I'm sure every geek out there cringed whenever they dumbed down h4cking or teh internetz for mass audiences. See penny-arcade:
