Aptera to make cameo in next Star Trek film?
For those unaware, "veiled in secrecy" is an extreme understatement when it comes to the next Star Trek flick -- if there actually is a next Star Trek flick, that is. Nevertheless, an undercover photographer managed to grab some recent shots of a film production operating under the title "Corporate Headquarters," and a few snaps caught a vehicle that looks awfully similar to the 300MPG Aptera. Coincidentally enough, said craft was also missing from last week's New York Auto Show. Look, we aren't piecing together clues in a valiant attempt to get you stoked about seeing a space aged automobile in a movie that may or may not even be real (okay, it's real), but then again, it's hard to shake the evidence.

The pictures were taken at CSUN.
polvadis @ Mar 28th 2008 1:32AM
Yeah, that was the first thing I thought. We used to see filming on that campus once in a while, it was always really more of a pain in the ... for the students. But hey, that's Southern California for you.
rock99rock @ Mar 28th 2008 12:58AM
Damn thing looks like a giant sperm.
For2itous @ Mar 28th 2008 1:16AM
Looks more like a diaphragm to me... and were this Star Wars rather than -Trek, that would make this fine whip (warning: obscure medical reference follows): The Millenium Dalkon!
Reader @ Mar 28th 2008 4:02AM
You might want to get your sperm checked out... Don't think you'll enjoy having alien babies.

the star ship acadamy?
paul34 @ Mar 28th 2008 1:07AM
It is indeed real - it has been officially announced a while ago.
Also, I am not sure. Maybe it is a personal transport, but what I have seen of the Star Trek universe there doesn't appear to really be anything like a personal automobile in the future Star Trek universe. I assume they don't use transporters for short-range travel, so all I can assume is that people use mass transport. But then, I don't know how people from remote areas travel either. Maybe there are personal transports that were never stressed in a majority of Trek.
James Troi @ Mar 28th 2008 1:14AM
Personal Transportation is done with shuttles sheesh.
paul34 @ Mar 28th 2008 1:16AM
Heh, yes, but land-based personal transport over a medium-range... I doubt that is done with shuttles. Shuttles tend to be for transport between the surface and a nearby starbase, or maybe an orbiting vessel/starship.

Don't you guys remember the dune buggies in Nemesis? sheesh!

Argh - I was at the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant that very day - trust Starfleet to move house on filming day. Grrrrr.
Otis Whitaker @ Mar 28th 2008 5:15AM
This movie makes me a sad panda.
Why focus on the bad of Star Trek? (TOS.. campy crap about the space misadventures of a space womanizer and his crew)
I want more Picard! Sisko!
DS9, Enterprise Seasons 3 and 4 and TNG = best of Star Trek
Voyager, TOS, and Enterprise seasons 1 and 2 = Worst
Nutsy @ Mar 28th 2008 7:01AM
Damn this story is OLD... not just a couple of days old but OVER A WEEK OLD!!!
But as i said on the scifi forum i post to...
I have a bad feeling about this film.
Imran @ Mar 28th 2008 8:23AM
In Abrams we trust.

I wish people would stop using the bogus 300mpg statistic, which includes a fully charged battery on a 120 mile trip. You might as well run it in purely electric mode and claim it gets infinite gas mileage. The Aptera is actually capable of 130mpg.

TNG has the worst dry humor every, VOY was way better. Besides if TOS was so terrible should we try and make it better? This new film will show how the 60's show SHOULD have been had they had a higher budget. Besides Kirk the ladies man or dry bones Picard. Mmmm me thinks Kirk. DS9, VOY, and ENT will never make it to the big screen, especially if the cast members did sign on for 3 more TOS style movies. By the time Mulgrew, Brookes, or Bakula get a chance at bat for a film it will be 2020. Avery Brooks as Sisko was always my favorite captain.

This was posted on http://ApteraForum.con yesterday as well.

I've uncovered top secret proof that a new star trek film is currently in production. At great personal risk I post a link here. http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/startrek/large_trailer.html Sheesh.
