Pleo finally learns to sit with Life OS 1.1
Although Pleo just got upgraded to v1.0.2 earlier this month, UGOBE is taking the Life OS to 1.1 and adding a laundry list of features to boot. Initially available for install only through an SD card (download via USB should hit within a few weeks), the update enables your favorite dino pet to sit, sing a variety of melodies, call for attention, get sick (coughing / sneezing) and change attitudes based on how much attention it gets. As these things always go, there's also the promise of a few unannounced inclusions ("strange habits," as it were), and it should be noted that previous downloads -- Holiday, Love-struck, MySkit, Yapt, etc. -- will need to eventually be re-downloaded in new versions to be compatible with the Life OS 1.1 update. Give the read link some attention to check out the changes, and fire up the download while you're over there.

I think there's some subtle promiscuity in that photo.

My life needs an OS update.
I'm still running the '85 kernel with the '97 GUI.
Veriander @ Mar 31st 2008 10:13PM
You want to trade for a '58 kernel with a character interface???
IndiaTech @ Mar 31st 2008 10:16PM

andres @ Mar 31st 2008 10:36PM

Reader @ Mar 31st 2008 10:52PM
I believe the point is that modern toys even have firmware to update in the first place.
DT @ Mar 31st 2008 10:46PM
I'm trying to teach my 8-month old to crawl. Maybe she just needs a patch?
ethana2 @ Mar 31st 2008 10:50PM
Watch the dosages, buddy.
Dustin @ Apr 1st 2008 2:40AM
I put the patch on my 8-month old, and she went right from crawl to sprint..

i think the pleo could be the next big toy if it wasn't $350
i think that if it was sub- $200 and available on store shelves these things would be hard to keep in stock.
Stem $ell @ Mar 31st 2008 11:55PM
There once was a dino named ‘Pleo’
Imported from folks in Tok-y-o
But when upped to ‘point two’
His e-paper tatoo
Now reads, “Dumb ass, go buy my bitch ‘Cleo’”
andres @ Apr 1st 2008 12:01AM
what?
vertigo1 @ Apr 18th 2008 2:04PM
Yeeeah, woulda been funny had it not been designed/made in USA.
chris at trade2save @ Apr 1st 2008 12:07AM
I never thought a dinosaur could be cute. Looks a bit rubbery though
Anthony H. @ Apr 1st 2008 12:24AM
Maybe because it's made out of rubber?
Dustin @ Apr 1st 2008 2:41AM
yep, definitely more tender when you marinate it for a few hours first.
Ayle @ Apr 1st 2008 3:39AM
why does that picture look like it is about to take a dump on that hand?

Ehh, guys? On that photo, can anyone tell me where that finger is going?

Pleo learns self pleasure with Life OS 2.0
Alex @ May 5th 2008 6:37AM
Despite Ugobe's clever marketing Pleo does not learn from it's environment. The only point in which it does actually "develop" is from hatchling to adult and that happens within 45 minutes. After that Pleo reacts to the same stimuli in the exact same fashion every time (scratch chin=sing, stoke head = purr, stroke back = coo and pick up = goes to sleep) Unfortunately Pleo in it's present form is no more independent than the inventor's furby back in the 90's (remember when a lot of people believed their furbies were learning?). Pleo is amazing, it's cute and moves life like, but that's about it. 1 hour play time then 4.5 hours battery recharge and the realism and interaction with it becomes a non-plus, add to that ripping skin that flakes paint (yes the rubber is painted), chipping teeth plus necks and tails that are breaking (see Pleo World forums for details) and we have a prototype that is basically funding possible future bots the inventor hopes to unleash in the future.
