blueLounge's The Sanctuary keeps your gadgets encased, charged
We'll be honest -- we weren't exactly feeling blueLounge's grossly overpriced SpaceStation, but its boldly-named The Sanctuary actually strikes us as quite useful. The gadget organizer allows technophiles to stuff their handhelds into this black or white container for easy carriage / storage, and moreover, it includes a built-in panel of labeled plugs in order to connect all your gizmos to power at once. The unit comes with a dozen connectors for the most popular items around, but since it's universal, your options are bordering on limitless. Heck, there's even a USB port thrown in to charge any oddball device you may have laying around. Yeah, $129.95 is still a touch steep, but for the avid traveler who can never find room for 12 or so AC adapters in that carry-on bag, it's probably well worth the cost.

I just needed a post to try and login to my profile. I'm having password issues. I have used everything I can think of, including the one found on my confirmation email for posts without success. How do you reset the password if you cannot log in to your profile???

$125 is ridiculous. And having jacks for a million things I don't even need?
Why not make your own box with a powered USB Hub and plug all your jacks that you use in there.
Tim @ Apr 12th 2008 7:25PM
Nxtiak is correct, rediculous...
Blackstar @ Apr 12th 2008 7:44PM
I think this company is attempting to corner revenue streams from housewives who can't stand wire clutter or the anal/obsessive compulsive market, or both.
MikeKlein @ Apr 13th 2008 1:32PM
Touche! I've purchased several usb mini hubs and they work just fine...although they don't come with an uber-enclosure like this one does...nor 12? ports (5 at most).
USB recharging can be VERY flaky though. Sometimes devices won't charge unless turned off first and sometimes this isn't enough. I had a BoxWave connector that wouldn't charge my 8525 but would charge a friends unit.
Funny thing about USB recharging (or any for that matter) is that now a days it is closely coupled to software on device/host computer....NO ActiveSync? NO CHARGE FOR YOU!
It kind of sucks you need both a sync'g cable and charge cable in most cases. And then there are a few stubborn devices which refuse to charge with a standalone hub of any kind and require a computer (Sansa!).
wakka_wakka @ Apr 12th 2008 5:31PM
i can't imagine this going over well with airport security, despite the interesting concept.
Bad Beaver @ Apr 12th 2008 5:44PM
Do you live your life in order to please airport security?
hoorayformacs @ Apr 12th 2008 6:04PM
Bad Beaver:
If I had a life, I wouldn't.
nxtiak @ Apr 12th 2008 7:57PM
Why would you take this through airport security in your carry-on?
broli @ Apr 12th 2008 5:32PM
It's not a very smart idea to have all your previous gadgets packed together like that. If one of them decides to have a meltdown this thing becomes a graveyard.
nxtiak @ Apr 12th 2008 9:22PM
Or you're drinking a soda and you go get your stuff and you spill your soda into "the sanctuary" and all your gadgets get fried.
paul34 @ Apr 13th 2008 12:33AM
Or the keys in the same box as your other, soft-plastic laden electronics...
Matt @ Apr 13th 2008 2:27AM
Or an evil-doer can easily walk away with ALL YOUR GADGETS just by grabbing the box!
JuggleNuts @ Apr 13th 2008 11:38AM
Or you drop it while walking across the street, a passing steamroller runs over it, and all your gadgets get crushed.
thethirdmoose @ Apr 13th 2008 11:57AM
Or if it's in a nuclear attack, all your gadgets get fried because of the radiation.
Or if it's photoshopped, they see the pixels in ALL your gadgets, as they've seen quite a few shops in their time.
David Gilmour @ Apr 12th 2008 5:33PM
Does it also charge the PS3 laptop?
Rob Green @ Apr 12th 2008 5:38PM
To be honest I'm much more interested in the wireless charging idea and how that might be adapted to existing devices when a workable version of the technology is released.
All these multi-charge devices are pointless because they only account for so many devices, and that thing only has one USB socket, the only common socket out of the lot listed there.
Roll on a nice shelf where you can lay your gadgets side by side regardless of what brand they are and let them charge in peace.
Phonixfire @ Apr 12th 2008 6:52PM
Agreed. Here's to hoping that within the next few years hotel rooms will have built in wireless-charging =P
(and of course, that we can buy wireless charging hub-thingies for home =P)
Hmm... Just thought about what "here's" actually means. I guess it's short for "here is", meaning I've just dedicated a teeny tiny little portion of my life to there being wireless-charging facilities in hotels soon... As have any of you who read it out loud.
MUwhahaha *Kira-laugh* >.
dj-kenpo @ Apr 13th 2008 10:16AM
the problem with wireless charging is all the batteries have to have thick ass metal plate addons. I was excited too, till I realized the technology was shit and annoying in reality.
Aaron @ Apr 12th 2008 5:53PM
An actual comment:
Just get an iGo power adapter and multiple iGo splitters with custom tips to achieve the same thing for a fraction of the cost with complete upgradability.

I don't like the idea of proprietary cables. I merely want straight USB->ProprietaryDeviceConnector as this is all that's needed...more portable too.

kyle allen @ Apr 12th 2008 8:48PM
all my gadgets come with a charger, why would i pay over a $100 bucks when i could just grab a power strip and a cardboard box?
John V @ Apr 12th 2008 8:57PM
Kyle,
The answer? A little thing called STYLE, m'man.
Also, since everyone in my house is always unpluging my recharger to plug in theirs, it'd be nice to have this by the front door.
Or I suppose you could do the cardboard box and spend the remaining $120 on a nice dinner out to smooth over the deal...
kyle allen @ Apr 13th 2008 1:19AM
120 on a dinner!!?? where do u eat?
John Venzon @ Apr 13th 2008 1:31AM
Kyle,
I eat at the same place the guy from Monopoly eats. He's got two of these things, which he uses to recharge his monocle and top hat. Since this thing only has one mini USB, he needs two, you see.

On the home page of engadget, this image is huge. I like how on the Dell post, the image is smaller and seems to fit within a defined layout, instead of random sized super images.
