Zalman's ZM-M2020W Trimon 3D monitor gets reviewed
Zalman may be far from being a household name, but a stranger to 3D displays it isn't. The company's latest 22-incher not only packs a 1,680 x 1,050 resolution panel and a bundled set of glasses, but it features the ability to render graphics in 3D. The eager critics over at Trusted Reviews had a nice sit with the device, and when all was said and done, the ZM-M2020W was seen more as a building block for revision two than a runaway winner as it was. On the upside, it did manage to render some pretty phenomenal scenes in 3D -- and even managed to change the reviewer's perception of the technology -- but the overly glossy screen and steep price tag kept it from being recommended without hesitation. Still, if you're willing to pay the premium to fit into the niche, by all means, give the full review a once over in the read link below.

There's not a lot of good gaming LCD anymore. If anyone knows of any good LCD please reply. Decent MS about 1MS-3-MS and really high resolution w/ HD.

I don't like the new ones as much as the older models, but the new Gateway line of 22-30" LCD monitors are pretty damned good with pretty much every jack you could need in a monitor (Component, HDMI with audio out, DVI, VGA).
They have great response time- the only problem I had with my new 22" Gateway is that the colors are a bit different so it took me a few days to get used to it. Overall, very happy with it.

Mr.Tech @ Apr 17th 2008 4:39PM
@ OneLove: Are you serious? I feel like getting a 2x4 and smacking it over your cheeks.
Jordan @ Apr 17th 2008 3:34AM
I like. Now I just need to pull 600 bucks out of my ass.
Joe_Templeman @ Apr 17th 2008 7:57AM
I dont see how they call it such a premium, when its around the same price you pay for a decent 24inch display..
Dani @ Apr 17th 2008 3:40AM
Hmm, I want that too.
Champers cooler or 3D monitors? ...where's my piggybank.
Martin @ Apr 17th 2008 3:56AM
When can I use this monitor with my PS3..........
TareX @ Apr 17th 2008 4:02AM
Wow I didn't even know these existed.
So can it render any 3D shooter in real 3D, or should special games be developed for it with 3D layers in mind?
Alexander @ Apr 17th 2008 4:08AM
Are we talking about the same Zalman that makes cmoputer cooling systems?
Why don't companies just stay in the one area they are great in instead of botching up the rest of the market with noobish products? It's like Microsoft trying to make tables...
j_g_puff @ Apr 17th 2008 4:15AM
I say good for Zalman. It should spank all the other VDU manufacturers into perfecting this tech. Even if this product isn't great, it's still an important milestone. Plus, I bet it runs reeeeeeeealy cool.
FatDude @ Apr 17th 2008 8:52AM
Ahem....
When it comes to new products, why limit who's attempting to push the envelope to those companies who have been doing "it" forever? I'm quite sure if one company existed to develop computers and new technology, how fast would they progress. What consumer market would they cater to? Would you still be checking engadget on a Tandy? I was, and continue to be a firm believer that anybody who has the hojos to push the envelope and make people consider a new or different technology or even a new application of current technology, or heck, even a remake of current technology to do what is in their power to do so. Create a system of competition. Make things cheaper. Strive to bring to the consumer what they want.... for this, I applaud Zalman and shun you.

Yea! jezz why didn't BMW just stick to making planes why did they have to go into that lame car business. people and companys should only stick to what their first product or job was. I believe there is a burger and fry station in your past calling your name.
Alexander @ Apr 17th 2008 4:18AM
Touché.
King Mook Mook @ Apr 17th 2008 4:57AM
Yes, but can this be used as a monitor to play Crysis?
Jack @ Apr 17th 2008 6:40AM
yes, and it will play doom
y3k.nik @ Apr 17th 2008 7:45AM

i really like being surrounded by pixelated monster! less scary and easier to shoot that ways.
Victor @ Apr 22nd 2008 7:46PM

This one was the first review on the net. It offers a slightly more gamer orientated outlook.

Can your face blend?
King Mook Mook @ Apr 18th 2008 6:43AM
@Jordon: Yes, my face does blend.

@Alexander
I'm sure that if Microsoft decided to put their money towards making tables they'd make some fine ones. Surface and everything.
OneLove @ Apr 17th 2008 11:58AM
Zalman is a household name!
Joseph @ Apr 17th 2008 1:25PM
I would add headtracking to those 3-d glasses.
Eliot @ Apr 17th 2008 3:29PM
I played a 3D shooter on one of these monitors at CES in January. It was extremely cool. As the price comes down (as it certainly will, but will always be at least somewhat more expensive than a 2D monitor of the same size), gamers will be buying these like crazy.
And coupled with Zalman's "gun trigger mouse" input device the combination was a real step forward in gaming realism.
