Segway i2 now available in Metallic Sage, still not inviting
We appreciate the effort, we really do, but we can't see a new hue as being the adjustment that coaxes the world to stop laughing at the Segway i2. Nevertheless, those who have convinced themselves that they just have to have a two-wheeled transporter can now snatch one up in Metallic Sage. Of course, it's not like anyone outside of the i2 owners circle will even notice the difference, but hey, we've heard that some seriously great relationships have come from within that exclusive sect. Sike.

Sage? Puhleeze. I'm waiting on persimmon...or houndstooth.
phanbouy @ May 2nd 2008 8:28PM
i'm a fan of bronzeberry frost, myself
vcx @ May 2nd 2008 9:38PM
periwinkle blue for me.
John @ May 2nd 2008 10:13PM
I'm more of a natural tone kind of guy - maybe sand or bone would be nice.
Drew Lewis @ May 3rd 2008 2:43AM
Burberry or Louie Vuitton is what I'm waiting for.
Jubei @ May 2nd 2008 7:59PM
Still a bit too pricy to make any sense for the masses to buy into.
Synthaxx @ May 2nd 2008 8:02PM
I'm still waiting for them to make the Segway Centaur a reality.
After that they can fiddle with their color swaths till their heads turn metallic sage.
Jman @ May 2nd 2008 10:53PM
The Segway Centaur is truly amazing! I had a short ride on one.
Gerg @ May 2nd 2008 8:08PM
HAHAHA... Sike. Who says that? Cool people, that's who.
Jesse S @ May 2nd 2008 8:09PM
sage
Zencyde @ May 2nd 2008 8:10PM
Sike? Seriously? The word is "psyche". Not to mention the fact that the 90's ended over 8 years ago.
Reader @ May 2nd 2008 8:44PM
The 90s are OVER?!?! I've been living a lie for the last 8 years!
phanbouy @ May 2nd 2008 8:45PM
i still hear more 90s than 2000s music on the radio
YouFaceTheTick @ May 3rd 2008 1:52AM
Oh, they meant psyche. I was wondering if that was the writer's signature. Sike? Good lord...
JerryA @ May 6th 2008 1:17PM
Well, if you really want to be anal, it would be "psych". "Psyche" is pronounced "SI-kee".
Still, I do hate "sike".
phanbouy @ May 2nd 2008 8:16PM
Ittttttttttt's the FINAL COUNTDOWN!
phanbouy @ May 2nd 2008 11:13PM
GOB Bluth? Arrested Development anyone? Bueller?
Paul @ May 3rd 2008 1:45AM
haha nice I love that show.
Jtron @ May 2nd 2008 8:16PM
Zencyde - yer serioulsy such a spaz, like seriously to the max.
Paul @ May 2nd 2008 8:17PM
I took two Segway tours at Disney World last month. They were the best ride there. I don't think you should knock them unless you have tried them. Amazing machines. The X2 model is an incredible off road version.
Richard Lai @ May 2nd 2008 8:17PM
I regret to inform you guys that this vehicle has yet to be legalised in the UK. :(
Paul @ May 3rd 2008 1:46AM
What's the holdup?
Richard Lai @ May 3rd 2008 8:58AM
@Paul: may cause danger to other pedestrians and not enough cycle lanes, apparently.
Tim @ May 2nd 2008 8:28PM
im in a wheelchair because i can only walk a few hundred feet at a time, but i can stand no problem, so every once in a while i think about getting one of these. but then i come to my senses, thank god, and start laughing like crazy.
so consider this, segway-riding dweebs, my opinion of you: i would literally rather be in a wheelchair than get caught riding a segway.
hemmy @ May 2nd 2008 8:36PM
sage.
in all fields.
jim @ May 3rd 2008 11:33AM
i c wat u did thare
sheng @ May 2nd 2008 8:37PM
they need to make removable handles
cuz they r useless and not cool
phanbouy @ May 2nd 2008 8:44PM
ummmmmm then where do you hold on?
Kawaiipikachu @ May 2nd 2008 9:04PM
Lets say somewhere painfully
sheng @ May 2nd 2008 10:20PM
handles r for old woman
green goblin platform ftw
Ian @ May 2nd 2008 11:50PM
Handles are there for holding, turning and to push into your chest when you're going too fast for the machine to cope with and stop you going arse over tit.
bob e @ May 2nd 2008 9:03PM
It could really use a nice Zune dock in between the handlebars. That would make a big difference for me.
Stem $ell @ May 2nd 2008 9:34PM
Gene Simmons green.... now *that's* 'metallic sage' for ya! Note: This comment not only tongue in cheek, it's tongue in *that* cheek!)
Bernard Gollwitzer @ May 2nd 2008 9:40PM
Didn't the usps try these things for their mail carriers? Do they still use them? I'll bet theirs a patriotic red, white, and blue.
Ethan @ May 2nd 2008 10:44PM
I have never, ever seen one of these outside of California, putting it in a category of such things as Scientology clinics and rich homeless people.
Asha @ May 3rd 2008 2:48PM
I've seen a few up here in Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada). We also have Scientologists.
Asha @ May 2nd 2008 11:05PM
I do realize that they look pretty dorky, but I've ridden one and have say that it was a lot of fun. If I had the money to blow, I'd get one.
I don't see them as the vehicle of the future, but the Segway is certainly a good place to start.
tekdroid @ May 3rd 2008 12:59AM
Segway website sez:
"If you’re not as concerned about durability, consider the i2 in Gloss White or the newly minted Metallic Sage. These are brighter painted versions of the LeanSteer frame that’ll lend a shinier look to your daily glide.
The i2 Metallic Sage is an interesting color. Some say it’s goldish. Others say it’s silvery-green. We’ll let you decide for yourself as you enjoy its dynamic appeal in various lighting conditions. The metallic underbody grabs the changing light while the Segway wordmark is presented in an off-white green with a subtle outline above the gray i2 logomark indicated below."
------------
When they put it like that, I just can't resist. Good copy makes me bust out my wallet immediately and forget that it's more than just colour. It's about how others perceive me and how I perceive myself. Segway, god bless you. I love your work and just how much you know me.
I can't resist.
Jared C. @ May 3rd 2008 12:59AM
I'm pretty certain its an identical paintjob to the one in Ironman. Is this a new paintjob? It would be highly "coincidental" if the new Segway and a movie with one in it came out on the same day.
hiko36 @ May 3rd 2008 4:43AM
OH WOW!!! I just realized that Tony Starks partner in Iron Man was riding one of those... Segways... I thought they had died a horrible gyroscopic death... is that possible???
serrow @ May 3rd 2008 5:23AM
proud owner of a black I2. You can talk all you want until you get on one. For me, that's what did it, so for all of you bloggers and reviewers who have never tried. Go! Any segway owner will let you try one because the first reaction tends to be pretty amazing to watch.
OX4 @ May 3rd 2008 6:02AM
I was driving past the Pentagon parking lot on Route 110 two weeks ago and saw the Pentagon Police training on these things. There were about 10 of them standing around watching one cop weave his Segway through some orange cones. I was laughing so hard I almost ran off the road.
94 taurus owner @ May 3rd 2008 8:56AM
If I had 5 to 6k on me right now,I'd be at the local dealer in a heartbeat.
Zak @ May 3rd 2008 10:55AM
It's too bad it's so easy to laugh at someone with a Segway. I rode one of those things at Disney World a month ago, and it was actually pretty fun. I wouldn't ride it everywhere instead of walking, but I can imagine something like that would be really useful in a major city.
jamesFF @ May 3rd 2008 11:15AM
This will help you get that image of "White & Nerdy".
Ken Laninga @ May 3rd 2008 11:29AM
I don't much care about color, if they weren't prohibitively expensive, I'd grab one.
Steffen Jobbs @ May 3rd 2008 12:11PM
I thought this vehicle was supposed to change the way people used urban transportation. This turned out to be the Zune of vehicles.
obiwan @ May 4th 2008 3:44PM
Which is why it should have a Zune dock. They go well together!
peternj @ May 3rd 2008 12:23PM
Seen some tourists in NYC looking like idiots and knowing the look stupid as they try to avoid running into pedestrians.
Might be fun at Disney world but then that place is stupid as well so why not use it there.
Even funnier is watching the fools put plastic raincoats on when it rained. Their glasses steamed up... what a mess... still great to laugh at.
Yuri @ May 3rd 2008 9:33PM
=D My aunt is looking into the legality of these things in Japan.
I have serious hip problems, and will be going to school in Tokyo. I can't walk far distances, or ride a bike. She wants me to have something like this or to somehow magically afford a taxi everywhere, which I have to take traffic into account when I go to school. I already will be living an hour away by public transportation, and I don't even want to think about how early I'll be getting out to go to school.
I think they look dorky as hell, but they go at a decent speed, and will help me commute back and forth places. I'll use it.
