Onda adds WiFi to the VX777 PMP
We rather liked Onda's VX767 PMP when it hit the wires back in March, and it looks like the company is hard at work on a sequel with built-in WiFi. The upcoming VX777 shares most of the 767's specs, including pretty decent video codec support and TV-out, but adds in WiFi and potentially a touchscreen. We're not exactly certain if there's a browser included -- the leaked specs only say internet radio -- but if this thing is any kind of cheap when it arrives in August we'll certainly be intrigued.

There it is again... with the water droplets... for no apparent reason.

That shit sells, innit.

Wow...Apple just sucks the creativity right out of these people.
What is wrong with these copy cat designers? C'mon, be original!!
Argot @ May 7th 2008 3:24PM
You could ask Apple the same thing.
fred @ May 7th 2008 3:26PM
I think the same thing every time I see a MacBook that folds open.
Why oh why couldn't Apple come up with an original laptop design? Or why cant they come up with an original keyboard, where the letters are arranged in a unique way?
Apple invented the rectangular shape and by Gawd they are the ONLY ones who may use it!
I for one will never by a PMP that uses a design that Apple apparently owns, but didn't originate!

The iPhone/iTouch is an etch a sketch rip off:

Wow...Engadget just sucks the creativity right out of these iPhone/Pod clone posters.
What is wrong with these copy cat commenters? C'mon, be original!!
Vic the One @ May 7th 2008 6:01PM
Frank, please stop acting like Apple has a patent on rectangles. I assure you they do not.
Oh, and just to prove that you can own a Mac and not be a blithering fanboy idiot: I have a Macbook Pro and enjoy using it. I also have a desktop running Windows that I built, and I enjoy using that equally. I also have a server running Linux. TRUST ME, OPERATING SYSTEMS CAN COEXIST! Where is your God now, fanboys of the world?!
Jesse Dula @ May 7th 2008 3:16PM
Err, Im just curious as to what more can be done with a PMP design. I mean, a rectangular screen, some buttons...What are these companies supposed do? Make 'em round?
All these Apple rip-off posts are becoming redundent.
HalfJoey @ May 7th 2008 3:20PM
I don't understand how the shape of a player makes it an Apple rip-off. Omg TVs are square, cant they make them another shape?! What? they're all going widescreen?! What uncreative people! Apple must have invented the rectangle and touch screen.
fred @ May 7th 2008 3:31PM
it doesnt make it one.
These guys use it as a way to try to smear those products. They hope to protect Apple from competition by making it seem that these devices are all just plain awful because they are rectangles like the iPhone. There are variations on this, but it's all for the same purpose.
phanbouy @ May 7th 2008 3:34PM
this thread sets a new record for number of times "rip off" was used
Steve Jones @ May 7th 2008 5:17PM
I've just ripped off your mums clothes.
IT-Accountant @ May 7th 2008 3:34PM
I agree with HalfJoey, it is difficult for a company to make a widescreen PMP that doesn't look like the iPhone simply because the iPhone makes use of a very good basic shape, and for another company to have to think up a totally different form factor just to make it look more unique would be stupid.
Wiigee @ May 7th 2008 3:43PM
Apple fanboys suck! please understand not all of us mac users are that narrow minded. Apple was not the first to do pretty much anything thats in the iTouch/phone. It also was not the first to make a long thin black media player.
This looks really cool, if there was a browser, that would be amazing! If ones not included im sure some hacker will throw Firefox on there.
01 @ May 7th 2008 5:45PM
I agree, people like Frankthecrank & Clak (he'll show up soon) make all Mac users look like blathering idiots. Just to set the record straight:
Apple didn't invent the MP3 player
Apple didn't invent the phone
Apple didn't invent touch screens in mobile devices
Macs, while quite tasty, don't fit everyone's needs
That said, in my PERSONAL experience, Apple manages to take existing technologies and A) make them look good, and B) introduced superior user interfaces. I, for one, welcome the competition, as it leads to innovation on both sides. Seriously, I drank the kool-aid, I didn't baptize myself in it.
Superevil @ May 7th 2008 5:46PM

engadet... editors and owners...tell them to stop sweating PMP2days blogs and wack as chinky pmp's.... it is really getting old... anyone can go to alibaba.com or globalsoruces and find a mp4 that will never make it to the us market... LOL ....
d840 @ May 7th 2008 8:36PM
These are chinese PMPs, right? Meaning they'll never make it to the US? So why the hell do you say "...when it arrives in August..."??? It WON'T arrive in August. In fact, it will NEVER arrive in the US, except if someone imports it or goes to China to buy one.
Seriously Engadget, WTF? It would be so much better if you didn't post anything rather than posting filler shit like this. No one is going to blame you for it being a slow news day.
I propose an "Engadget East Asia", where all these posts about things we'll never see in the western hemisphere can go.
Wiigee @ May 7th 2008 9:13PM
why should they only report on US tech? im interested in Chintech.
d840 @ May 7th 2008 10:00PM
Meh, it's just getting kinda old, and I'm not the only one.
If you're interested in Chinese tech, I highly recommend this site:

If that one is too hard for you to understand, I also recommend this one:
