BUILT's Laptop Backpack keeps your files close, peripherals closer
Not one to just follow the crowd, BUILT has thrown an interesting twist on the oh-so-popular Neoprene laptop case. The Laptop Backpack enables users to tote their 12- to 17-inch machine right on their back along with textbooks, LAN party flyers and a copy of The Daily Bugle; you'll also find a couple of smaller compartments for storing peripherals and accessories. The material itself is water- and stain-resistant, and the pack is available in two sizes to fit all but the most atypical of frames. According to BUILT, the new wave of laptop carrying should begin today at $80 a pop.

Definitely the poor man's Kevlar vest.
bryan @ May 9th 2008 12:10PM
Don't try wearing that thing in the front on your chest while at the airport or on a plane, I'm sure the homeland security guys would not find it as cute we would.
Low Ranked @ May 9th 2008 12:23PM
I don't find any man wearing anything cute.
Anonymoose @ May 9th 2008 12:35PM
o'rly? picture this: gary coleman. bib. mesh haltertop. fanny pack. you can't tell me that's not cute. to sweeten the pot, he's holding an analog phone and riding a segway. no pants.

Galaxy of Prawns? Three prawns is hardly a galaxy.
Reader @ May 9th 2008 1:51PM
Does that mean you only think naked guys are cute, Lowest Ranked?
Jim @ May 9th 2008 10:49AM
Is that a PuppetMaster on his back?
Randy @ May 9th 2008 10:49AM
This could be useful for peeps that ride a motorcycle and need to carry a laptop. But then again, So can a traditional backpack of appropriate size.
Interesting idea but I don't see much benefit other than it looks different.
Wonderkid @ May 9th 2008 10:50AM
Make an even smaller version for the EEE PC, that I can wear under my jacket and I'll be stoked! Was just thinking of this idea the other day. Good stuff!
Tyler @ May 9th 2008 10:53AM
looks like a diaper for your back. fully loaded.
karen @ May 9th 2008 11:05AM
For the record, I think this is so cool looking! You guys just don't know anything about style!! :)
Low Ranked @ May 9th 2008 12:24PM
Karen, judging by your sense of 'style', if you ever tried to dress me, at least have the decency to shoot me first.
ralphie @ May 9th 2008 11:18AM
something else to separate the nerds from the chaff.
J @ May 9th 2008 11:51AM
Don't you mean the chaff from the nerds? Nerds, for the most part, wear practical things (pocket protector, etc.).
marc @ May 9th 2008 11:53AM
It's the fanny pack of the 00's.
justin @ May 9th 2008 11:59AM
This is going to make you an instant cowtipping victim.
I hope you have the optional insurance.
NuttyBars @ May 9th 2008 11:59AM
Maybe it's good for a Macbook Air -- if you can wear it under your jacket.
dzhiurgis @ May 9th 2008 12:00PM

looks good for the police department crew, no more desk jobs. But then again, a desk job may be the only thing keeping them killing unarm civilians.
spencer n @ May 9th 2008 12:47PM
Looks like a head crab from half life.

Yeah thats cool, for ike 20 bucks not 80.
Chris Aubeck @ May 9th 2008 4:25PM
Why should Ike get it any cheaper?
ma5t3rw1tt @ May 9th 2008 4:09PM
Now this is the shit. Well what about those people who swet alot? Seriously, you start sweting real bad and then your laptop gets all wet and then no longer works, now that would make your day. Don't know about you, but I would certainly be very pissed off if I had this kind of problem and it happened.
Overall, I like this concept.
WARNING: Sweting may cause laptop damage!
Chris Aubeck @ May 9th 2008 4:29PM
Wow, "sweat" hasn't formally been spelt like that since Old Frisian (8th-16th centuries).
Brian @ May 9th 2008 5:06PM
Thank you for the PSA.
Everyone, please remember, think of the laptops! Don't let your swet cause damage!
cough @ May 9th 2008 4:27PM
Or i could... you know... use a normal backpack. And not look like and ass! win - win
Jackyshadow @ May 9th 2008 5:41PM
with a decent quality laptop, this thing can work as a bullet proof vest as well. (at least for you back)
rutsy5 @ May 9th 2008 9:03PM
Sorry, title should read: BUILT's Laptop Backpack keeps your files close, peripherals closer, and the girls far, far away
unrealgameralex @ May 9th 2008 9:24PM
Awesome, definitely very cyberpunk-ish
konshuss @ May 9th 2008 11:30PM
looks like a baby carrier for parents who want their kids on their backs instead, and without a place to hook their legs into so they have to hang on with their arms. a real muscle builder.
dvdivx @ May 9th 2008 11:50PM
You could just wear it on the front and call it a beer gut but plenty of people seem to be doing that already.
nikster @ May 10th 2008 12:31AM
I am thinking torrential rain and wet laptop. No thanks.
How is neoprene "water resistant" - neoprene certainly doesn't mind being submerged in water for long periods of time, but it also gets wet on both sides. Laptop sticking out doesn't really help either. Nor am I - as has been pointed out - a fan of sweaty back.
I think it looks great - but there seem to be too many practical problems here.
Zuke @ May 10th 2008 11:22AM
I was thinking headcrab from the Half-Life game.
