im not thinking typo....2 and a 6 are pretty darn far away on a keyboard
yoyodude64 @ May 11th 2008 11:40PM
i was just gonna say that
maybe to confuse a 2 with a 1 or 3, but 6 is a long way off
gabe @ May 12th 2008 12:06AM
i say who cares
Twilight Elk @ May 12th 2008 12:37AM
If you look at a Number Pad; 2 and 6 are touching corners. Not too far.
Pochi @ May 12th 2008 1:12AM
I think gabe nailed it.
Garst @ May 12th 2008 2:04AM
The 2 part wouldn't be the typo unless Apple put 6.4. But 4 and 6 are still far enough apart for it to be a typo. Now it they put 2.3 or 2.5, that could be considered a typo.
rock99rock @ May 12th 2008 5:44PM
OH WOW!!! what will i do with my extra 200mhz??? Gabe is right.
Big Ed @ May 11th 2008 11:41PM
The max is 2.4.
SneAKZ @ May 11th 2008 11:41PM
Umm.... MacBook does up to 2.4 right now. Not 2.2.
Prezzie @ May 11th 2008 11:42PM
I hope it is a typo, and actually, we'll be getting those 26GHz MacBooks soon!
Josh @ May 12th 2008 1:24AM
holy crap. talk about typos.
Khris @ May 12th 2008 8:52AM
I should have known this would happen. I *just* bought a 2.4ghz MacBook less than a week ago! Damn you Apple!! *Shakes Fist*
PhantomAGN @ May 11th 2008 11:43PM
The current macbook max is 2.4. (like mine)
So it's only a little jump.
Sounds realistic.
Derek @ May 11th 2008 11:44PM
It's all over their site now, so I'm guessing it's not a typo.
jon_mckinney @ May 11th 2008 11:47PM
They've got a 2.6GHz and 2.5GHz MacBook Pro up for sale. It's 3,049 for a base model with a 2.6GHz C2D. Hit up the store.
v3xx @ May 11th 2008 11:48PM
which references a new model of the laptop (which right now only reaches 2.2GHz)
its actually 2.4GHz. according to apple.com.
2.6 wouldn't be an unbelievable jump
v3xx @ May 11th 2008 11:49PM
ah he caught his mistake.
Derek @ May 11th 2008 11:50PM
Looks like the iMac got a boost, too. Up to 3.06GHz
AlphaDeltaVIII @ May 11th 2008 11:54PM
...a few weeks ago.
Derek @ May 11th 2008 11:56PM
*Hands over his Mac fanboy card.*
michael.dekmetzian @ May 12th 2008 12:03AM
Do my eyes deceive me or is that macbook silver also?
Matthew Harnack @ May 12th 2008 12:09AM
That would be you. Ha ha i submitted this tip.
Jason Magio @ May 12th 2008 12:09AM
They fixed the mistake. :-)
MatthewGeorge @ May 12th 2008 12:12AM
They haven't fixed it yet its still there. Its in the center and you have to wait a second for it to change.
Aviv H. @ May 12th 2008 12:14AM
Which mistake are you talking about ?
Steve Jones @ May 12th 2008 2:13PM
The one your mother made when she gave birth to you Aviv.
shaun @ May 12th 2008 12:11AM
suddenly my 1.83GHz MacBook begins to weep
Ray @ May 12th 2008 3:44AM
My 2.0GHz MacBook is weeping too.
Tim Rosencrans @ May 12th 2008 12:13AM
I would say a premature announcement as there is no reason they would describe the MacBook as new as it was last updated 3 months ago.
simon @ May 12th 2008 12:14AM
Man, you guys will print anything to do with Mac. Apple is playing you guys like a fiddle and getting a lot of free publicity. BTW to all those who will castigate me saying that it's a blog not the news media... yes I realize that and no this is not where I look for unbiased information.
Luigi193 @ May 12th 2008 12:33AM
Blah blah blah blah blah blah
David Vogt @ May 12th 2008 3:57PM
Agreed.
Michael Griffin @ May 12th 2008 12:33AM
It says on the website that it is 2.6 GHz, on the MacBook pro page.
http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/
Erik @ May 12th 2008 12:41AM
New Apple MacBook promo, not MacBook Pro.
Michael Griffin @ May 12th 2008 12:33AM
On the apple store page it says 2.5 GHz.
Lucas @ May 12th 2008 12:38AM
Yep...they updated:
15-inch MacBook Pro
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB on-chip shared L2 cache running 1:1 with processor speed; or 2.5GHz or 2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6MB L2 cache
17-inch MacBook Pro
2.5GHz or 2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6MB on-chip shared L2 cache running 1:1 with processor speed
Erik @ May 12th 2008 12:43AM
MacBook (13-inch), not MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro upgrades are old news.
BigDaddyM @ May 12th 2008 12:38AM
Great post since it is now all over the Apple website!
M
SteveS @ May 12th 2008 12:52AM
Anyone else hate these microscopic .02 upgrades?
JohnPQ @ May 12th 2008 2:14AM
It's almost embarrassing to comment on.
Even if they do, whoopie! It's 200MHz...
Good lord Apple gets a lot of free press.
Nick Soapes @ May 12th 2008 7:26AM
not only is it a 200 mHz upgrade, going from a 2.4 gHz chip to the 2.5 or 2.6 iteration of the current intel chip changes the onboard cache from 3mb to 6 mb...that is why i would want the 2.5 or 2.6 instead of the 2.4
SteveS @ May 12th 2008 12:52AM
I want the 3 point something please... Currently on a 2.4, so 2.6 is not a big enough jump to make me want to upgrade.
Loo @ May 12th 2008 3:46AM
But don't you all get it?
A new product, comming accidentally online on monday.
A top-selling phone taken from the shelfs, an other, eagerly awaited new one has to come really soon.
And tuesday, happy tuesday... Well, everybody round here should be aware of Apples tuesday..
Yeeeehaaaa! Brand-new iPhone comming tomorrow! :)
slackercow @ May 12th 2008 3:53AM
talk about the biggest non-news news event. seriously. 200mhz is something engadget has to post about?
Alex @ May 12th 2008 6:07AM
They changed the add, now its: http://img.skitch.com/20080512-8q4iipwdhbkf3n6agt579wy93s.jpg Macbook PRO
cmdwedge @ May 12th 2008 8:11AM

New Apple MacBookPro - Now Even Hotter!
digitallysick @ May 12th 2008 9:05AM
a whole extra 200 mhz wow! a difference you would not notice at all
Evan @ May 12th 2008 9:31AM
The current 2.4GHz is already ridiculously over-powered compared to the typical Windows laptops BestBuy is pushing!
Instead of upgrading the MacBook faster, Apple should offer a downgraded version in order to compete with mainstream Windows laptops: reduce the CPU to 1.6GHz, add a 1/2 inch thickness to the case, fill that extra space with lead weights, add randomly placed rubber feet on the bottom, and cut the price in half. Then it would be a good match to BestBuy's most popular models, and would probably fly off the shelf!
rcast1986 @ May 12th 2008 7:31PM
Hmm, you mean like the extremely popular HP 28xx series (19 I think) with the 250 GB SATA hdd, 3 GBs of RAM, clocked at 2.0 GHz that weighs in at 5 and a quarter pounds for under 900 bucks? Then again I guess you could always have the 2.4 GHz/2GB RAM/200 gig of storage in the 5.4 pound body of the MBP. For more than twice as much.
Same can be said with Sony's SZ and CR series, Gateway's M-6800 series, tons of other HP notebooks and even Dell's XPS series laptops.
Aside from the fact that the majority of people who go into Best Buy to pay even more for a preconfigured computer typically don't know crap about computers to begin with -- kind of like most Macintosh customers as well.
