Prototype iControlPad proves itself on video
Hah, did you really have the nerve to doubt CraigIX? The iPhone gamepad add-on that we heard about just last week is already inching closer to reality, and there's a video to prove it. In the somewhat unexciting clip posted up after the jump, you'll see a PCB mockup of the device doing its thang, though it's quite inelegant in its current form. If you just needed one more something to boost your interest / confidence that this critter was real, you know where to head.

This might as well have been a MSI wind demo. (blurry video)

mr. blurrycam to the rescue

YAY FOR SHAKY CAM!
Why can't developers at least get someone ELSE to hold the camera, or buy a freaking tripod for goodness sakes!
Andrew Scala @ May 31st 2008 8:25PM
Programmers and people like him DON"T HAVE someone to hold the camera for him. ;_;
dg @ May 31st 2008 5:01PM
Why does it seem that anyone with something worth filming can't operate a camera and/or understand basic concepts of what makes DECENT photography/cinematography.
LIGHTS. DEDICATED CAMERA OPERATOR (or even a TRIPOD!).
Then we go to YoutTube where 99% of the videos are complete garbage, but filmed decently enough that we watch it just because there was enough light to see what's going on and you don't feel dizzy afterward.
Steffen Jobbs @ May 31st 2008 6:04PM
OK. That was totally useless. Since it's just a prototype, it doesn't count for much. Let's see the finished product playing some games.
andres @ May 31st 2008 6:56PM
because all decent products were products before they were prototypes
t3_slider @ May 31st 2008 6:12PM
Turn on the lights and learn how to focus (and hold the camera still). Pathetic.
This video really showed nothing. For all we know, it's just a simple program that outputs a bunch of crap every time you press a certain key. I'm sure that's not the explanation (it may be legit), but anyone who actually wants to show that they're making something that works would hopefully be smart enough to post a better video than this. Fail.

Is that the cloverfield monster?
corgilabsG @ Jun 1st 2008 1:13AM
:) that's a mockup, not a prototype. a prototype is something you can send to engadget for evaluation.
Chip @ Jun 1st 2008 3:18AM
No, a mockup is a non-functioning model that just shows what a product will look like. A prototype is a functioning, pre-production version of the product. This definitely falls into the prototype category.

What garbage!
emanuelle @ Jun 1st 2008 4:42AM
Well to all the people that are complaining about the quality, why don't you donate to the guy if its that big of a deal.
I do wanna say one thing what was the point of this to show off terminal skills I wanna see the gamepad in action.
Chris Kraynik @ Jun 1st 2008 11:22AM
Despite his whiny voice, this guy's iPhone demo was more convincing than this CraigIX video... heh...

It seems to me that HARDWARE-wise, it would be trivial to attach an HID USB controller to a Touch/iPhone, since it obviously has a USB port on it. The tough part would be writing the driver.
safertr @ Jun 4th 2008 5:09AM
i agree with stalkythefish, it has USB port on it. about usb
