LapWorks Gamers Desk enables couch-based PC gaming
Or you could say it enables you to keep your fundament firmly planted for, oh, ever. Yes friends, LapWorks' Gamers Desk essentially eliminates the need to get up and move over to the family PC where a mouse / keyboard combo can guide you to victory in yet another deathmatch. This lapboard (no, not that Lapboard) keeps a keyboard and mouse within reach of couch-based gamers, enabling them to fire up WoW on their HTPC and still maintain the edge afforded to them by using the aforementioned KB / critter tandem. The unit itself measures 11-inches wide by 26.75-inches across, is made from ABS plastic and includes non-skid rubber pads on the underside to keep it from slipping around in that pile of Doritos. It's available now in gun-metal gray for $39.95, but a few more hues should be ready to roll later this year for those patient enough to wait around.

Is it good for Bed-Based too? wouldn't a good Dell XPS solve this problem? :P.
BTW: How do you get the pc to the couch / bed?

World of Wireless...
kjb434 @ Jun 19th 2008 2:59PM
You use a big screen tv and have some efficient cable or wireless setup!
Lars @ Jun 19th 2008 4:43PM
Well, I don't have my PC hooked up to my TV, but I use a wireless keyboard and mouse for my PS3, which is hooked up to the TV in front of a recliner. For web surfing I just use a hard mousepad on the arm of the chair, but for playing games I just grabbed a spare board I had lying around and placed it on top of the arms of the chair. Works great and I'm sure it's a cheaper solution than this thing. Plus it's got more mousing area, and isn't resting on top of my legs.
Reader @ Jun 19th 2008 2:11PM
When I saw this I thought of the Phantom thing too :P

next revision will have a refrigerated insulin holder for the diabetics so they definitely don't have to get up.
steve @ Jun 19th 2008 2:12PM
Dosn't look like theres much space for the mouse.
Bunson @ Jun 19th 2008 2:12PM
Beat me to it, son of a bitch.
Shinigami @ Jun 19th 2008 2:46PM
+1
There was another thing for the same purpose. It has 2 layers, one on your lap with mouse, another is attached to the corner of the first, is angled, for the keyboard. This way you have enough space for the mouse and keyboard.
I hope you'll dig that thing up :)
Conor Maher @ Jun 19th 2008 3:54PM
That mousing area is about 1/10th of the size of my mouse mat :(
What a useless invention
Das Gluten @ Jun 19th 2008 5:30PM
You mean the Phantom Keyboard?

mm that looks like fun to use. I'm sorry but having one hand practically under the other? I'll just use the Switchblade if I'm that lazy

From the look of it my mouse pad is half the size of the entire unit!

How about just clicking the link in the post, instead of digging. :P

Anyone know what keyboard that is...it "looks" like a good gaming keyboard, I want to buy my cousin a good for his b-day.
Shadowise @ Jun 19th 2008 2:46PM
It's a z-board, the keyboard with interchangeable key sets.

If you need english-only KB, I highly recommend Logitech G11 gaming keyboard. Its great for gaming. And its even better for typing! I like it. It has a back-light for english buttons, but other languages won't get any light.
You can also look at Logitech G15, which has a LCD screen, but I didn't find any use for that.
There are other great gamer keyboards out there...uh...somewhere. I never found them for sale in my city's shops so can't say anything about them.
Danakin @ Jun 19th 2008 2:23PM
...people have already been making these for a long time (and cheaper).
Is there anything special about this one?...other than it looks a lot neater than most of the others?
absurdio @ Jun 20th 2008 4:07PM
Also: Is there any reason anyone has to make this at all? I mean. Couldn't you just use a bit of plywood or something?
Danakin @ Jun 20th 2008 4:21PM
Well, it's a bit more difficult to fold a piece of plywood...but I would have completely agreed with you up until about 3 weeks ago when I tried my hand at stealing WiFi from my car...trying to balance a laptop and use a mouse in a car is quite difficult.
mcdizzle895 @ Jun 19th 2008 2:25PM
They will likely offer a limited edition combo pack that includes a catheter, and adult diaper so you REALLY don't have to move!
Low Ranked @ Jun 19th 2008 2:47PM
Its not a combo back if it doesn't come with a robo-bitch to bring me beer and TV dinners.
psyonn @ Jun 19th 2008 2:26PM
Not like it comes with the keyboard, $40 for 2 cheap pieces of plastic. Is this marketed 4 people to dumb to go get a generic laptop desk board from anywhere else?
Must hate trackball mice, and have the inability to balance a keyboard on your lap; but only just barely, as it is not much bigger than the keyboard to begin with
Boarderwoot @ Jun 19th 2008 2:33PM
I'll pick one up on my way home, it will go well with my SE MGS4 PS3. Very soon my entire entertainment center will be gun metal grey.
Alex @ Jun 19th 2008 2:36PM
Who cares what color it is.
qwerty3party @ Jun 19th 2008 2:51PM
like oh my totally god i like totally want that new PINK ONE like OH MAH GOD it will LOOK SO CUTE right NEXT to mah PINK iPod and MAH PINK DRESS! Now me and mah GIRLFRIENDS can TOTALLY play HANNAH MONTANA, DATING SQUAD.

That, or one two many blue ice pops.
94 taurus owner @ Jun 19th 2008 2:41PM
I want one.
Shadowise @ Jun 19th 2008 2:47PM
A small plank of wood would do the same job I wager... not as elegant though...
jaredgood1 @ Jun 19th 2008 3:02PM
Elegant schmelegant. $40 for a 1 pound slab of plastic is ridiculous.
ShadowKain @ Jun 19th 2008 2:49PM
That is a neat device but that keyboard featured with it? Sorry, just a bit to "innovative" for me....
jaredgood1 @ Jun 19th 2008 3:00PM
You know, even if my current couch setup (keyboard on lap, mouse pad on Monopoly box, elbow on pillow) gives me horrible cramps or carpel tunnel, I am not paying $40 for a 1 pound slab of plastic. $40? Really?
Tim @ Jun 19th 2008 3:04PM
I used a plank of wood for my kb/mouse in college, but it was to go over the drawer on the ancient desks in the dorms. :P
bolezhinkov @ Jun 19th 2008 5:16PM
oh man I did that too!
Don @ Jun 19th 2008 3:34PM
This is Extreme gaming to the dorkiest power
Richard Lai @ Jun 19th 2008 3:51PM
Man, I had that mouse a long time ago, weighed quite a bit.
sqrlking @ Jun 19th 2008 4:11PM
Does anyone remember the lap drawing boards they had back in the day? I had one when I was a kid... it was just a flat piece of plastic with a bean bag attached to the bottom.
That would be way better for couch based gaming/computering.
arkweld @ Jun 19th 2008 9:40PM
http://www.lapdesk.com/products.jsp
and they work and feel great. That Lapworks thing has no wrist area for the keyboard or the mouse side.
You may as well just buy a piece of shelving and spray it grey.
