Don't know why you kind of double-posted there, but I'm still using my Axim X51V for my music (Though occasionally also my HTC Titan). I just simply wear some Plantronics bluetooth headphones, they kick ass. No messy adapters needed, either. A2DP/AVRCP ftw!

We get jilted on so much cool gear here. I had to pick mine up from 123warehouse.
On another note, anythingbutipod has had a review of the lplayer up for a while. They also liked it.

Takes some effort from iriver too to get some resellers to set up in various countries you know.

I use my PSP as my PMP. It plays games off the memory stick. I can emulate N64 games, GBA, SNES, etc... play videos, music, look at photos, go on the internet, and even use it as a camera or radio! And since the movies UMD's have been going off the market, they're DIRT cheap now!

The Philips unit just plays MP3, WAV, and WMA, its not a video player. Little flash based music players are a dime a dozen, thats why it was yawn inducing. We have seen those in every size, shape and color.

I admit it looks nice but nowadays all decent phones (smart & dumb) are excelent media players too , often with more memory than these things, not to mention all the other features.
To me it seems that the only market left for PMP is people that don't use telephones and I would really like to see what these people may look like.

Well...there is that fact that a half decent media player has much better audio quality than a phone, is able to copy files much faster than the micro sd cards used in phones, and will probably have a better battery life. Its nice to be able to use a phone for a lot of things but I have never used a phone that has made me want to replace my camera or mp3 player - jack of all trades, master of none springs to mind.

some people favour really small devices, not to mention FLAC and Ogg Vorbis support (which I've never seen in a phone), among other things a dedicated music device can offer over a phone, I'm sure.
for me personally:
1) the two-handed clicking
2) non-replaceable battery
3) embedded, non-removable storage
...are enough to put me off. So much that I don't want to even know what it sounds like. I've got to give them credit for the Ogg Vorbis and FLAC support and unique-ish design, though.

I have a cell phone. And an iPod. I simply prefer to keep the two separate since I have my iPod going 80% of any work day. I'd rather save my phone battery power for...well, phone usage and not rocking out to Michael Bolton.

when I go running I dont want to carry a bulky phone with me. A nice little mp3 player clipped onto my side which allows me to easily change the song while running is what im after. Not to mention my current phone, which can play mp3s, has sucha horrible interface, and even a couple hours of music listening means im on low battery.

I have a Conwon Iaudio U2 that's been with me for about three years. It's about the size of a Bic lighter so the biggest two issues are loosing it and the button control. It seems like the the five way toggle worked well at the beginning, had some issues and then hit it's stride. I've taken many falls on it while biking and skiing. The battery life is exceptional and the codec support is great. I'm an NPR junkie and am really surprised at how well the FM radio works. It's old and is only 1GB which is a bummer, but it's bulletproof. On a side note, I got my girl friend the Conwon U3 and from what I hear it's just as good and 4GB.

It all comes down to what what kind of phone you choose.
You should choose one that has the right specs for you.
My N95 has 8Gb of memory and it´s more than many PMP have got, new models have double as much or the possibility to expand it.
As for sound quality MP3 sounds at best OK no matter what you gonna play them out of. Whith decent headphones (I use the nokia's made bluetooth & foldable headphones) I am convinced that my music sounds better than my wife´s Ipod with her creepy jelly like hearplugs.
As for cameras I must agree :Obviously no phone cam will compare to even a cheap SLR, but the pics I make with my N95 compare favourably with those made with any point and shoot I have seen until now; so much so that I gave my exilim away to a collegue because I never used it.
And You know what? Now that I have downloaded the new garmin software into the N95 , and I got used to it, I did,nt swich on my tomtom in more than 2 weeks.

the non-apple mp3 players are great...they just dont have that dock connector that third party manufacturers make specifically for iPods and rarely anything else...which is why i have no hesitation in buying an iPod even if i see a better mp3 player made by somebody other than apple...

Hey guys i know this may not be the place but ill try my luck, im looking for a replacement for my 30GB iPod video 5g and im thinking of a switch. The problem is there nothing that's actually better now don't hate me just yet. Like the 80GB classic iPod is £170 ($340) which is ok but its not that much better than my current, the touch is vgood but the 32GB version is like £330 ($660) which im not prepared to pay. The next best thing ive seen is the Zune for the new 80GB version comes in at £160 on ebay average Microsoft doesnt seem want to sell in the UK. Which is what im thinking of, but then there no support or if something goes wrong im screwed. I just want to know what my other options are Sony doesn't seen to have players higher than 8GB?? and even they come in at £140.The zens are just ugly, im leaning towards zune and final question does anyone know if apple is going to update their lines soon? apple usually has another keynote in September right?

Just a thought: have you thought about the Cowan iAudio D2? Get an 8 gig and put a 16gig SD card in it and you're doing pretty well for yourself.
Myself, I went with a zen, and it's been good to me. Only issue I've had is that the SD card isn't integrated into the on-board memory.

No offense but PC Mag's review isn't very good. I found three reviews from other sites that go way deeper into things, which is more useful when shopping than a quick 'n' dirty look like PC Mag. I bookmarked these today to read later when I have some spare ca$h.
