Medion Akoya E1210 netbook gets unboxed
Just days after going on sale in Europe for €399, the Wind-esque Akoya mini laptop has been acquired and unboxed for all to see. As it stands, we're still not certain if this thing will ever head to US soil, but judging by the remarkable similarities to a few other low-cost lappies, we reckon we'll survive if it decides to stay put. Head on to the read link for a look at the shots.

very cool, but kindof expensive for something like that
...most things are supposed to get cheaper with lower specs, not more expensive...I'm amazed people still buy American-made things.
Rick @ Jul 1st 2008 1:46PM
American made? Try Taiwan or the PRC.
Oend @ Jul 1st 2008 1:52PM
I'm fairly certain 399 is including Germany's 19.5% VAT, which would put this price squarely around the same cost as the American 3 cell Wind before tax.
(399 * .805 * 1.5) = 481 USD
Khattab @ Jul 1st 2008 5:27PM
VAT is "only" 19% in Germany.

tasty

Looks really good. Except for the stickers, that is.
Rick @ Jul 1st 2008 1:54PM
From the pictures it looks like they get a 3-cell 2200 mAh battery. That is what is supposed to be shipped with the Winds on uly 7th here in the USA.

Engadget editors:
The Medion Akoya E1210 is a rebranded MSI Wind. It isn't Wind-esque, it isn't a clone, it isn't a knockoff.. It's the same computer with a different label on the front. Same goes for the Mouse Computer LuvBook U100.
Of COURSE it has remarkable similarities! It's the same laptop.
Next you are going to be telling us all that the Mazda Tribute is a Ford Escape knockoff.
Rick @ Jul 1st 2008 3:45PM
I thought the Mazda Tribute was a knock of of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. You know, the zoom, zoom, zoom one.

"lappies" again? laptop and lappy have the same number of syllables. what's the effing point, other than making me throw up in my mouth a little bit every time? or should i say, throwy uppy in my mouthy a little itty bitty? boo boo ga ga?
