Kodak's got a new one for the semi-casual point-and-shoot crowd, the
EasyShare Z1015 IS. The 10 megapixel Z-series camera manages a 15x optical zoom, a 3-inch LCD, HD footage at 720p and 30 fps, and Kodak's Perfect Touch processing. Naturally the IS implies optical image stabilization, but the 6400 ISO should help out in the shaking department as well if grain is not an issue, and full manual controls should help out all the in-betweens. It'll go for $350 come September.

Wow, 11 minutes after this story the IPhone 3G story (which one you ask?) of the first 10 to get it was posted. As of my posting, there were 0 comments on this and a soldi 50 on the iPhone...
Does no one care about Kodak?
Since I've spent time on this, am I allowed to now, at the end of my comment, say...
First?
Za @ Jul 10th 2008 10:40PM
Kodak hasn't produced/manufactured its own cameras in nearly two years. Singaporean firm called Flextronics does that.
Za @ Jul 10th 2008 10:42PM
Noone should, since they don't design or manufacture their cameras any longer.
iofthestorm @ Jul 10th 2008 2:45AM
Wow, that's actually a really nice camera for $350. 15x optical zoom and 720p recording at 30fps? That's pretty amazing for a regular camera. But I bet that 720p video chews through SD card space like no other. I'd imagine you'd want a 4GB or higher SDHC card to go with this.
geothermalcat @ Jul 10th 2008 4:25AM
wow, i didnt think id ever see a dslr camera this ugly. damn hideous thing... regardless of functions.
Razor @ Jul 10th 2008 4:55AM
It's not a DSLR. Geez, the lens alone should be enough for you to figure that one out =P
gad get @ Jul 10th 2008 4:56AM
This isn't a DSLR. Those have interchangeable lenses, and as far as I know, don't generally have video capability. This type of camera is what's known as a DSLR-like camera, a bridge camera, a super-zoom camera, a "prosumer" camera, if you will.
gad get @ Jul 10th 2008 4:58AM
Oh yeah, and I'm not sure what you're expecting when it comes to aesthetics (sports car red and large spoiler, perhaps?), but this is actually a fairly attractive camera.
WhyFi @ Jul 10th 2008 7:05AM
Hint - any time you see a camera with a 5X, 10X, WhateverX zoom... it's not a dSLR nor is it intended for the dSLR crowd.
geothermalcat @ Jul 10th 2008 11:11AM
lol... im sorry i didnt realise it wasnt an interchangeable lens... but the uglyness overpowered the overall picture.
Cassini @ Jul 10th 2008 6:33PM
DSLR it is not, but UGLY? Oh yes... Very. That thing is hideous, indeed.
Razor @ Jul 10th 2008 4:55AM
I can't say that I'm a Kodak fan anymore, especially after the customer service I received when the board cooked on my DC260... none. They wanted $400 for a board replacement due to their defect in design, when 3.2 and 4.0MP cameras were available for that price. Um... right.
Still, I loved that camera when it worked. It was my first digital. 1.5MP, Digita OS, and yes, it could play Doom. I shit you not. I can't tell you the reactions I would get from people stunned that I was playing a game on a camera.
Anyway, I've long moved over to Fuji and Nikon.

To think that Kodak makes some of the most advance sensors in the business and all they can come out with is a 10MP camera? They should give the photography world a run for its money and put out their 50MP sensor on a camera that's smaller than a Hasselblad H and costs $2,000. Then they really can say "We take the worlds best pictures."
maff @ Jul 10th 2008 11:19AM
50MP? you need to check your drink wasn't spiked
M @ Jul 10th 2008 7:41PM
No he is rite with the 50MP.
GatgetMan @ Jul 10th 2008 9:02PM
Like "Rite Aid" or like "riiiiiiight"...

the lens of th camera on the right is poor photoshop.. perspectives are not correct.. the camera looks cheap, and the fake inner lens makes this pic even cheaper
zëK @ Jul 10th 2008 12:37PM
thanks for changing the picture!
M @ Jul 10th 2008 7:42PM
I hope the UI is good.
dosguy @ Jul 11th 2008 9:23AM
At least it's got an optical viewfinder - quite helpful for the (apparently extremely rare) occasion when someone might want to take a picture outdoors in the SUNLIGHT. *
* Sarcasm directed at manufacturers who insist on making cameras without optical viewfinders.
iphoney @ Aug 3rd 2008 2:11AM
it has an optical viewfinder (2nd picture).
LG @ Aug 19th 2008 1:35PM
It's not an optical viewfinder, but an EVF (electronic view finder). An OVF wouldn't be able to cope with a 15x zoom range. EVFs are pretty much standard fare with super-zoom digitals (at least those that still have viewfinders).
dAVID @ Sep 23rd 2008 8:27PM
WOW what a bunch of snivelling children with nothing good to say. I feel sorry for most of you.
