Ruyan keeps the e-smoking trend ablaze with Vegas e-cigar
Thinking of quitting cold turkey? Good on you. Finding it a bit harder than advertised? Enter Ruyan America, the same folks who delivered the e-cigarette just over a year ago. The new Vegas is based on the same concept -- delivering nicotine to smokers without the harmful toxins that typically follow -- yet it's obviously shaped like a cigar. This disposal product provides around 1,800 mouthfuls of vapor and comes pre-loaded with a 16mg nicotine cartridge. Granted, Ruyan America doesn't claim that this thing will help you quit, but those who'd like to feel suave or give it a go anyway can grab one now for $45 (or a box of five for $200).[Via I4U News]

This is lame. If you need the nicotine, why not just use the patch?
If you need nicotine and something tubular to stick in your mouth, somehow I don't think your addiction is nicotine.
collegekid13 @ Jul 13th 2008 11:16PM
yaaaaa finally smoking that doesn't kill those around you!
deyanimay @ Jul 13th 2008 11:16PM
This might just be the single greatest invention in the history of mankind.
Miguel @ Jul 14th 2008 12:21AM
This isn't remarkably new. Pfizer's Nicotrol brand started marketing their "inhaler" more than 5 years ago. Same thing. This one just looks like a cigar. At least the inhaler also had replaceable cartridges.
deyanimay @ Jul 14th 2008 5:25AM
I was being sarcastic.
Artie Lange @ Jul 13th 2008 11:31PM
Nicotine causes circulatory and cardiac disease. This is less detrimental to the user's health - and certainly to those around them - but its still not healthy.
Ruben @ Jul 14th 2008 8:37AM
This is substantially less detrimental to a persons health. The carbon monoxide (or basically anything that gets emitted when it gets burned) being inhaled is like a hammer of destruction to your lungs, while this eliminates that, because its vapor.
Sure, its still bad because of the Nicotine content, but none the less, if your not going to quit smoking anyways, you might as well smoke in a slightly more healthy way. Not to mention it doesn't destroy your home, car, and those around you.
That last point would probably make you smoke even more. Whats the harm in turning one of these on in the office?
Something tells me that the future of cigarettes is in forms like these. As soon as Phillip Morris and the like get involved in this, we will have a future generation of smokers asking people for a AAA battery instead of a light. Then they can dedicate all that tobacco growing land for earth destroying E85. Everyone wins.

i wonder if this would make a good gift for a smoker "trying to quit" or would the person be insulted by it?
Matt @ Jul 14th 2008 12:52PM
The problem is that I don't know any cigar smokers who are trying to quit. The biggest cigar smoker I know smokes exactly one cigar a day (or occasionally none at all). I smoke exactly one cigar a week. I don't know a single person that you could call addicted to cigar smoke. Not to say they don't exist, but that kind of person has problems that probably aren't the fault of tobacco or nicotine at all. Smoking generally gets a bad rap because of cigarette smokers, which I consider a filthy habit - but then cigarettes are infused with artificial chemicals and tobacco blends specifically engineered to create chemical dependence. For that matter, every cigar smoker I've ever met despises cigarettes. I can understand someone wanted to break a cigarette habit - but I really don't see the use, or the market for someone trying to quit cigars. As just an FYI, you do NOT inhale cigar smoke. If you do, you're an idiot. Smoking a cigar is like tasting wine. You sip it, enjoy and evaluate the flavors, then spit it out.

I get confused between cigars and tampons.
%u258C @ Jul 14th 2008 7:21AM
That or your a very talented cigar smoker
Marques @ Jul 16th 2008 11:56AM
Confuse the two a few times and believe me, you'll learn. Just always remember:
Cigars: Brown
Tampons: Red

Anybody try the original e-cigarette and know if it helps quit?
Twitchy @ Jul 14th 2008 2:41AM
Substitution therapy doesn't work - it just transfers the addiction to the new stimulus. Behaviour modification is where it's at, but that doesn't make someone bucket loads of cash nor does it sound like an easy way out.
B. Waite @ Jul 14th 2008 11:27AM
It helped me quit smoking, but your milage may vary.
I have colleagues who went from a pack a week to the e-smoking equivalent of a pack a day.
God help them if their e-cigs ever break.
Joshua Walters @ Jul 14th 2008 12:01AM
All the fun of nicotine addiction, without the fun of getting to light something on fire and stick the opposite end in your mouth!

Can I order these from my iPhone? I just got a new iPhone, did everyone know that? If I can't get this from my iPhone, I don't see the point of Engadget posting this article...
Chuckles McGee @ Jul 14th 2008 12:16AM
After you're done having fun with your iPhone for the day, you can lay in bed and smoke one of these.
BradS @ Jul 14th 2008 10:32AM
You'd need to get the new Apple® iCigar™ (patent pending)
It has a multitouch interface, so you turn it on by stroking it. No, wait, that's something else...
I sure hope Apple® doesn't claim THAT infringes on their multitouch patents.

If you're smoking cigars and getting a nicotine high, you're just plain smoking them wrong. Draw and enjoy the taste. Do not inhale.
Artie Lange @ Jul 14th 2008 12:58AM
Yes, enjoy the taste of sweet, sweet mouth cancer.
Nippon @ Jul 14th 2008 1:41AM
Well, at least a few people here are well informed enough to know that mouth cancer tastes good!
phanbouy @ Jul 14th 2008 4:49AM
oh come one, whattaya gonna hand out the once or twice you have a kid? lollipops? live a little ya ninnies.
Richard @ Jul 14th 2008 10:26AM
What? You still get a nicotine high just from drawing. Why do you think Rocky Patel's "The Edge" cigars have a warning on them? Why do you think some of Gurkha's offerings recommend that you stay seated and not operate heavy machinery? You get a nicotine high that is sometimes too strong for the smoker.
You don't have to inhale the smoke for it to be absorbed into your body.
Elisha Adeagbo @ Jul 14th 2008 1:03AM
Ruyan or Ryan?
LordFarkward @ Jul 14th 2008 2:24AM
It's Ruyan. It's Chinese, ru (roo) = like, yan (yen) = smoke.

ecigar? would you smoke it on the internet or something? Insted of getting lung cancer, your computer gets uber dust in the fan and wheezes and the keyboard turns yellow instead of your teeth.
Jason O @ Jul 15th 2008 2:31PM
Wow, Put a post up about anything nicotine related and the liberals come right out of the woodwork. I'm a proud dipper, I smoke cigars on occasion, a cigarette now and then, and am a gun owner (22 of them actually)..... You may think I'm a conservative.... but no, I'm just a liberal hater (cause I'm also an iPhone user, so no party will accept me)

I was a smoker for many years and decided to try an electronic cigarette after some other methods did not work for me. I bought my ecig from http://www.e-cigarette-china.com and I am very happy with the product. I got the mini, so it is about the same size as a regular cigarette. Highly recommended. BTW, .e-cigarette-china.com is e-cig manufacturer in china, they offer wholesale price even though you are personal customer.
