Chinavasion's "world's thinnest" MP4 player just may be accurate in name
Chinavasion isn't known for offering up cutting-edge gadgetry -- far from it, to be honest -- but the MP4 player known only as the CVSJ-1304-4GB is actually fairly notable. According to the dodgy specifications, the $39.55 device checks in at just 4.5-millimeters thick, which is certainly thinner than the other so-called "world's thinnest" DAP. Of course, this may only be true due to the "MP4" moniker, seeing as most units not created and sold exclusively in China are called "MP3" players. Semantics aside, the unit also includes a 1.8-inch display with a 160 x 128 resolution, a curious 2.5-millimeter headphone jack, a USB 2.0 port and a rechargeable battery. So, do any of you have a competitor that's a hair thinner? Our hunch is yes.

@ fanman
*Ahem*
"Credit Card MP3 Player - 2GB"
That is not an MP4 player (no screen or MP4 support).
guoruiwu1994 @ Jul 25th 2008 1:01PM
so does that mean you don't have an ipod?
channy @ Jul 25th 2008 8:50AM
...who cares?
Hellios @ Jul 25th 2008 8:59AM
The 2.5-millimeter headphone jack ruins it for me, but the price is quite nice for a 4gb player.
konshuss @ Jul 25th 2008 9:45AM
you can get a 3.5" --> 2.5" converter for about 50 cents.
El Taco @ Jul 25th 2008 1:56PM
Even though you can get a converter, I'm with you. I'd rather not have to have a converter attached to it at all times, it's much nicer to just plug in any headphones straight to the MP3 player.
initialxy @ Jul 25th 2008 9:03AM
do they have to keep up with this naming scheme?
NHAnimator @ Jul 25th 2008 9:09AM
I make the world's thinnest MP7 player. Just waiting for the format to come into its own.
Intrepid @ Jul 25th 2008 9:29AM
lol, ok.
El Taco @ Jul 25th 2008 2:02PM
I'm still waiting for an MP48 player that plays HHDDVVDDBVD's
let's see how many people get that
Saad Rabia @ Jul 25th 2008 9:10AM
I give them props for that thinness, I mean I'm really wowed. Now, I never tried it, and I don't know how the thing works in the software and hardware level, so I ain't going to judge it just right now, but again, that is really thin and the product design looks amazing.
Now my friend's Zune 8 looks miserably fat!
soccerj07 @ Jul 25th 2008 9:16AM

eX @ Jul 25th 2008 10:32AM
I hope you're being sarcastic Saad Arabia, because that SNR is downright terrible. The price is good, I gotta give it that but I'd rather get something better for more money. I don't know why people want everything thinner and thinner. In my opinion certain items have really crossed the line where their thinness makes them uncomfortable to hold and use (thin cell phones for example).
TJ @ Jul 30th 2008 11:18AM
man 5mW per channel? even my tiny cowon U2 does 13mW!!!
god you probably cant even hear it in NYC unless you have a pair of Shure E5cs.
paskal @ Jul 25th 2008 9:10AM
actually, almost every dap e.g. ipod, sanza, zen, and zune are created in china.

Windows 98SE?
lol so i assume it supports even way back to win98se... wow....
chefgon_ign @ Jul 25th 2008 11:53AM
Win98SE is a pretty common minimum system requirement for drag-and-drop USB storage devices.
DrXym @ Jul 25th 2008 10:21AM
God I hate the "MP4" moniker. It means NOTHING. It doesn't say what resolution video plays at, what video codec, what audio codec, what container, what profile. NOTHING. I can produce a dozen MP4 videos in a variety of profiles and formats and I guarantee that none of them will play.
I wish that a standards body would adopt and mandate some extremely straightforward profiles with recognizable logos to cover portable devices and home cinema devices. The current situation is a complete mess.
EricR @ Jul 25th 2008 11:58AM
When companies finally go for the "world's sturdiest DAP" I might pay attention. I don't want to have a broken player when I drop it the first time.
