PwnageTool 2.0.2 ready "in next few hours," jailbreakers prepare your engines
It's not the iPhone 3G unlock yet, but at least those of you who held-off from updating your iPhone to the 2.0.1 firmware are about to get a taste of improved stability and snappy keyboarding while early updaters will once again gain access to their jailbroken apps. Or so says the DevTeam who claim that PwnageTool 2.0.2 is "undergoing final checks and will be packaged, signed and should be uploaded within the next few hours, so count on it being released sometime on Thursday." The update will be provided via a direct link (which we'll pass along) and over the PwnageTool's software updater. So block out some time in your calendars, there's plenty of newbie hackery to be done later on today.Update: Delayed, clearly, here's why.

This is great news.

ya know. I wish I was the programmer of this tool.
4:57am , knowing I am expected at work in a few hours, but am hard at work programming this device that will benefit the entire world in a game of cat and mouse with Apple. Updating everyone in the IRC channel that only few know exists, "ready in a few hours" , the admin of the channel giving me +o and +v and all sorts of other user rights so that I can update the title of the channel.
Knowing I am expected at work in a few hours, thinking of the excuse to give to the supervisor, knowing in the back of my mind that people in that very office and all over the world are using my tool or reading about it on Engadget.

@neo:
From the tone of your comment, it seems like your little fantasy about this app is making you "use your tool" already.
ShadowKain @ Aug 7th 2008 8:23AM
I think Neofolklore IS a tool hahaha
iPhoner @ Aug 7th 2008 6:49PM
It's been delayed so they can include Installer 4.0 Beta with it!!!!

It's been released you can grab it from this mirror!!! http://www.iphone-hacks.com/2008/08/09/pwnage-tool-202-released/
khafaga @ Aug 7th 2008 5:14AM
Actually, I updated directly my unlocked iPhone 2.0 software without needing an updated pwnage tool.
Just from iTunes, the baseband is the same so it doesn't get updated when hitting update in iTunes.
xploit @ Aug 7th 2008 5:39AM
orly?
lolec @ Aug 7th 2008 5:26AM
Realy ? you should mail the Dev team and tell them that PwnageTool is no longer necessary to update your firmware. This guys are working for a solution that was just one iTunes click away, silly they.
Andrew Harrison @ Aug 7th 2008 6:23AM
I updated my jailbroken 2.0 iPod touch to 2.0.1 through iTunes.
It got rid of cydia and all the apps that weren't installed through iTunes, and is no longer jailbroken, but otherwise everything works fine, with no syncing issues or errors at all.
yode @ Aug 7th 2008 7:02AM
the baseband DID get changed, and obviously you can update it from a jb 2.0, it just won't be Jailbroken in 2.01
JOSE @ Aug 7th 2008 5:16AM
sweet! bust out the stogie..
khafaga @ Aug 7th 2008 5:24AM
Yes! I had a pwned 2.0 iphone and updated to firmware 2.0.1 through iTunes and still unlocked as it was.
It's the easiest update ever!
khafaga @ Aug 7th 2008 5:29AM
hehehe.. The pwnage tool did unlock my 2.0 baseband which is the same on 2.0.1 on my 2G iPhone. I didn't say we don't need it anymore.
Just don't need this update, unless you're performing a restore or starting from scratch!
xploit @ Aug 7th 2008 5:39AM
orly? O_o
Rollerbladerdave @ Aug 7th 2008 5:39AM
I updated my 2G iPhone to the 2.0 Firmware, but now wish to jailbreak and unlock it. After numerous tries with Pwnage Tool, the custom firmware causes my phone to restart repeatedly every 10 seconds until I restore it with legitimate firmware. Does anybody have a solution for this? What settings must be used on Pwnage Tool?
Penguin @ Aug 7th 2008 5:45AM
Here we go..........................
Teon @ Aug 7th 2008 6:36AM
I hope installer will be included... :)
I clicked the READ link @ Aug 7th 2008 6:54AM
It won't.

"We’ve just had word that our friends at RiPDev almost have Installer 4 (Beta) ready for public beta release, with that awesome news we’ve decided to include it in the PwnageTool 2.0.2 release, we are waiting for the software from them and we need to quickly test and add a small couple of changes that go alongside Installer."

My 3G iPhone is still unlocked after I updated to 2.0.1.
Thank god for free carrier unlocking :D
Foam @ Aug 7th 2008 7:52AM
Can anyone tell me how I can get rid of the Pineapple logo?
I jailbroke my friend's iPhone and he doesn't like it and wants the Apple logo back...
AdamSnow @ Aug 7th 2008 9:44AM
When using the Pwnage tool, and you go through advanced options there are buttons for bootup logos, etc.
just un-check them and both the startup and restore logos will remain the same.
LordFarkward @ Aug 7th 2008 9:45PM
Cool didn't know that. thanks Adam
sawboman @ Aug 7th 2008 8:15AM
I have a unlocked and jail broken iphone 1.1.4. and I want to update to the latest software version.
I'm not a tech person, so can anybody point me in the rigth direction to a failsafe way of updating.
7on @ Aug 7th 2008 11:25AM
Nothing is failsafe.

Foam. If you use WinPwn you can choose the image you like. I suggest a pic of your greg.
Frank Furter @ Aug 7th 2008 8:31AM
"Prepare your engines". Please. More like "Prepare your whining diatribe after the next firmware update breaks your phone."
I'm not hip anymore like you kids, so someone needs to tell me why there's still a need to jailbreak your iPhone. Is it the same thing as the whole DRM thingy, you're mad because 'the man' is keeping you down?
Hansel Marrero @ Aug 7th 2008 9:07AM
There is really never a "need" for anything like this.
People Jailbreak their devices because the App Store still doesn't provide things that can be attained through Jailbroken solutions. Apps on Cydia are able to do such things as run in the background and access areas of the iphone that official apps cannot. Such is the case with things like TapTap or Agile mobile vs the Official AIM app.
Even in the case of installing themes it is necessary to jailbreak the iphone to do anything. Apple will not allow any official GUI alterations. Anyone care to add?
MEAT! @ Aug 7th 2008 10:04AM
Sure, I'll provide some reasons. Last night I installed, configured, and ran a PHP-enabled, lightweight web server called lighttpd that is able to serve my local intranet with any web content I see fit to put on it, and I did it all on my jailbroken iPhone, via SSH. Maybe I can make a softlink to the phone's photo directory, allowing people who make a wifi connection with my phone see my photos? Or perhaps do the same with my music and videos, allowing me to share what I want (which I can already do via scp).
Raheem @ Aug 7th 2008 8:35AM
This is lovely, however is a 3G unlock (for those countries who don't already have carrier unlocks) ever going to surface, or have we given up all hope?
Richardh @ Aug 7th 2008 9:26AM
what about windows users
wlp @ Aug 7th 2008 10:02AM
what about them?
Foam @ Aug 7th 2008 10:14AM
@AdamSnow
@Ryan
What about using the Advanced Mode in the Mac version of the Pwnage tool? Will that give me options to leave the logo intact?
Thanks!
MEAT! @ Aug 7th 2008 10:14AM
Also, I can make my 'slide to unlock' screen actually useful: http://intelliborn.com/screenshots/IntelliScreen.png , play Quake, and download movies from YouTube for offline viewing. Oh, and the official app store doesn't have an RPN calculator that's halfway decent and free, but I have a clone of an HP11C on my jailbroken phone. It even have a small catalog of physical constants. No one on the app store makes cool shit like that.
MEAT! @ Aug 7th 2008 10:14AM
That was supposed to be another reply to Frank Furter, but I guess it stands alone, too.
Frank Furter @ Aug 7th 2008 10:49AM
I'd hardly call that IntelliScreen "cool shit", unless you're trying to make your iPhone look more like a BlackBerry. But hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm just glad I'm not beholding that phone.
MEAT! @ Aug 7th 2008 10:55AM
I wouldn't either. I called it "actually useful." A free reverse polish notation calculator that contains physical constants is what I called "cool shit."
Frank Furter @ Aug 7th 2008 11:10AM
I can't believe you actually typed that.
MEAT! @ Aug 7th 2008 11:27AM
I can't believe it's not butter.
Frank Furter @ Aug 7th 2008 1:54PM
Chuck Norris CAN believe it's not butter.

SPOKE @ Aug 7th 2008 11:06AM
I always get errors when trying to unlock the firstgen iphone. PU.
Always bitches about the firmware being the wrong rev or something, which is impossible since I bought it at burgerking.
James Cameron @ Aug 7th 2008 11:12AM
The stupid firmware 2.0.1 didn't really improve much. My Contacts is still pretty buggy. The stupid thing freezes and takes about 5secs for me to click on any of the contacts once awhile.
I wouldn't be surprised they release another firmware fix a couple of weeks right after this PwnageTool coming out.
Severina @ Aug 7th 2008 1:06PM
Primero !!! ...Si..?
PenguinHacker @ Aug 7th 2008 2:18PM
If after updating to 2.0.1 your iPhone is still "buggy". You should really try to do a fresh install of the OS.
This has worked for many people, as always make sure to backup everything first as reinstalling will wipe the phone;)
Agent42 @ Aug 7th 2008 2:20PM
I hope iLiberty+ gets updated for this.
IMO the best jailbreaking/unlocking/activating app available right now. Yes, you can choose installer over Cydia (for those not on 2.0.0 or 2.0.1, at least until installer 4.0 comes out)
Oh, right, a combo of Installer 4 and Cydia would be the ultimate jailbroken software source combo.
Bryan @ Aug 7th 2008 4:31PM
why does everyone think that installer is going to magically make more apps appear?
ITS NOT GET IT THROUGH YOUR FUCKING HEADS
