Samsung's latest volley in the iPhone's general direction -- the
Instinct -- had been promised for a June launch, but beyond that we hadn't gotten a specific date. That changes today with news that we should all be able to run our fingers over the Instinct's glossy front (and back, and sides, and wherever else you should choose to do so) starting on the 20th of the month. Availability in all channels won't be guaranteed initially, but that's when Sprint wants to at least start the flow of Instincts into the market for an as-yet-to-be-announced price -- so get ready to either speed from store to store in search of your new love on day zero, or just remain nude in front of your computer and scope it out on Sprint's website.

I honestly don't know much about the Instinct, but what's the difference between this and the Samsung Glyde besides not having a qwerty board?
Gaines @ May 27th 2008 10:29AM
Not sure. You may be able to find someone with an answer to your question at http://www.MySprintInstinct.com

No competition for the iPhone, especially with the release date being in June, also, but looks like a big step up from the HTC Touch, which Sprint originally had launched to try and compete with the current iPhone and was not even close.
Will be tough to market this phone to anyone other than loyal Sprint customers (with AT&T launching the iPhone 2, BB Bold and just getting the LG Vu, T-Mobile possibly getting a new Danger phone, and not to mention the new HTC Diamond).
Duscrom @ May 22nd 2008 4:18PM
If we're talking about Sprint and not Samsung, The HTC Diamond will more than likely be going onto Sprint, considering Sprint is who got the original HTC Touch.
Omagus @ May 22nd 2008 4:24PM
Except HTC has only announced a GSM version of the Touch Diamond. It remains to be seen if there will ever be a CDMA version of it.

This phone is actually a HUGE step up from the iPhone. I work for Best Buy Mobile which is going to be the only company to carry this phone and its a great model. the texting is awesome and when you text the screen actually seems to give in like a normal button would. I can't remember what they told me would be the price on it. All i know is that it rocks. And will ONLY be carried at BEST BUY MOBILE LOCATIONS. :)
Omagus @ May 22nd 2008 4:27PM
Not true. It will also be in Sprint retail locations. There's no way that Sprint is going to release its flagship device strictly through a third party.
BT @ May 22nd 2008 5:36PM
shannon, stop plugging for your work! lol
David(PCHO) @ May 26th 2008 1:59AM
Yes, for some time the Instinct will be available ONLY through Best Buy Mobile, however that's only for, I believe, 60 days before Sprint Stores start carrying it.
Sprint Girl @ Jun 9th 2008 6:04PM
Best Buy is definately not going to have it 60 days before everyone else does. It will all drop on the same day- June 20th. Thats when Sprint Retail gets it.
This phone should be able to put a good fight up against the iPhone, at least before apple releases the second version. It currently has much faster speeds, better sensitivity with its tilt screen, and has sprint's superior GPS system of Telenav that offers traffic reports and lowest gas prices, and people can make full use of the awesome Simply Everything plan.
As for the HTC Diamond, I haven't heard about releasing it for Sprint and I doubt that they will. We haven't had much success with HTC products. The Mogul seems to be too much for people who don't need it all and there aren't too many that need ALL of it. The Touch has had entirely too many problems and I have never sold and had someone keep it. People dont like having their screen freeze and not be able to get contacts out because the transfer is all via bluetooth and a frozen screen won't take a pairing code. They also don't like the fact that the phone frequently gets locked in sleep mode and sends the calls to voicemail.
We are excited for the instinct.
Venom376 @ May 22nd 2008 4:51PM
agreed... they're dropping over a $100 million in marketing this phone just to allow ONLY Best Buy to reap the rewards?!? Dont know where you got that info from..? Maybe the only 3rd party retailer that will carry it, not the only place..
Mr-Debator @ May 22nd 2008 5:50PM
Well, the interface looks worse then the LG-Viewty (KU990). But time will tell how useable it is for the average jo-six-pack.
trigatch4 @ May 22nd 2008 6:24PM
I think people are undercutting this phone. Perhaps their goal with the Instinct vs. iPhone campaign was a little too lofty. I mean, unless you absolutely devour the iPhone (yeah, right) it's like sitting in front of an oncoming train of scrutiny.
In any case, I think Sprint folks who pick this up will be more than happy. There's a Forum for Instinct-happy folks over at: http://mobileroar.com/forum/instinct/
sr87 @ May 22nd 2008 6:41PM
Shannon your wrong...I work for indirect Sprint and I am 100% sure we're getting this device. Already got POP Merchandising for it ;)
Achilles @ May 22nd 2008 7:48PM
I'm still waiting for the HTC Diamond. I'm more interested in the Diamond. This phone initially looked good but I have a feeling that it's going to disappoint. The videos show lots of response lag and that's just not acceptable for a touch screen phone. I'd also rather not have all that Sprint crap that they put on it, wasting space (Sprint TV, music downloads, more crap, etc).
Give me the Diamond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WiiTodd @ May 22nd 2008 9:49PM
This looks like a great phone, too back it's a Sprint phone.
RR God @ May 22nd 2008 10:27PM
Good Phones Gone Bad......A Sprint miniseries
Brought to you by at&t who Reminds you......iPhone 3G Comming This June!
slamEVIL @ May 23rd 2008 3:24PM
i don't understand why engadget said it was the, "latest volley in the iphones general direction." why, just because it's a touch phone? is this what they'll say about every phone with a touch screen in the future?
oh, and i still say the u.i. is atrocious!
Paul @ May 28th 2008 2:09AM
Instinct will be in Sprint stores when it comes out on June 20. Think Sprint spends 100 million on ads and gives it to no nothing fools at BB, get real?
Also as a iphone owner I'm dumping it for an Insight.
This phone does a lot more than an iphone, costs less than a 3g iphone and the best part is Sprint's $99 everything plan.
Besides Sprint's EVDO Rev. A data network blows ATT's away.
Goodbye ATT.
SL @ Jun 2nd 2008 1:46PM
Finally Paul a Reader with some "LOGICAL" thought. Networks Make the Hardware in this business. At&t would never have needed to sell there soul to get the iphone IF they had a great network to start with. I don't know what the Intrigue can't do yet, but I do know it can pull up a web page in under 7seconds, not in under 60seconds.
